Hi folks. I just opened a men shoe store and it's located in a sim that is almost always full due to a very frequented freebie shop across the street. Originally I thought I might benefit from sharing customers, but I've had a few customers complaint about lag and the time it takes for textures to load in my store. I've used 256x256 textures to avoid lenghty downloads and setup my store with walls so that my customers don't waste bandwidth downloading textures from the shops around mine.
I'm considering moving, but I need some feedback before I make a decision.

That's a tough call. Being in a less laggy location certainly is appealing, but I guess the question is how much "walk in" traffic (if any) would you lose.

Either way I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. With a name like "Calveen Kline" I can't see you making it in the fasion business. :)

If I was using search, found your shop there...tp'ed to your location and can't get around due to lag I am leaving. I think you have to base your decison on the amount of foot traffic you are getting and your people using search.

Tough question.

I used to think heavy traffic areas would boost sales for my shop.....but after a few months of trying new locations I realized it was all about just throwing out as many add signs and classifieds as I could........

As a consumer in-world...I prefer to go to places that are NOT geared toward new people looking for freebies.....but rather places that are minimalist in structures....clean looking with larger, very obvious individual shops. Malls frustrate the heck out of me....and big vender areas...I can't tell you how many times I tp'd to a vender area due to an add.....and landed in the middle of a zillion venders and couldn't actually find the place I was looking for. This happened last night......I wanted a spaceship/skybox and saw an add that looked great....cool products.....I tp......I'm in the middle of this huge round vender area in a space station and I spent an hour wandering around trying to find the vender that was in the add...... I never did!!!

I don't know if this helps at all.... but, from my experience anyway.....it's best to have one main shop location in as little lag as possible....and then advertise, advertise, advertise!! I lost more L's by renting shop spaces in multiple locations....even busy ones.....I NEVER made enough to justify the rents. So now I have one shop on land I own and it works out fine.

Fand, thanks for the heads up. That's about the same I've been hearing from other customers. I'll wait a couple more days before I make a decision.

lag can be caused also by too many prims, busy neighboring sim, to many people and bots...there is also lot of lag free island shops that seldom get visitors too. Big thing is if you're selling product you want others to be able to know about you and find you.
Not a whole lot of people in forums though to make impact.
For shoes fo me I have had a share of very bad experiences having them fit right.
For me to buy a pair of men's shoes they have to be seen outside of box, look good and would look like they be right size or size adjustable for small guys foot.
If you can't walk, can't see information about products and everything is grayed out then
I usually not comfortable there.
I prefer shopping in places like SLexchange, metamart, etc.
I probably shop more at SLexchange if it wasn't such a hassle depositing funds in world.

The less lag, the better - and I'm more likely to find your store via Search or by a referral from another store.

I don't care much for big malls, though I have seen shopping plazas with a small cluster of related storefronts and if done tastefully, I kind of like those as well or better than stand-alone stores.
