Somebody recently told me that he had lost his entire inventory. I was there one day, the next day he logged in, everything was gone.
Does SL do any kind of asset backup? I've got a lot in my inventory and would hate to experience the same thing...

they can`t even run their main servers so having faith in a backup server could be summed up with 1 word: lol

No, but sometimes repeatedly clearing cache and/or deleting the SL Application Data folder will bring it back. And sometimes it just shows up again at some later date.

I suppose you could always get an alt and transfer copies of everything transferable. Or just plain cross your fingers. I know, not great...
I haven't lost anything so far, and I usually keep copies of everything (important) I can in another folder - just in case. As for asset back-up, nope.

From: Cunundrum Alcott I know alot of people who store items in prims. If you mean in-world, there can be problems with the database losing those stored items too.

From: Cunundrum Alcott I suppose their are always going to be some risk. I have a storage prim with roughly 2K items in it and at least half of them fail to rez. Contrary-wise, I've never lost anything out of my actual inventory. YMMV

I've lost items that have taken a few months to return, usually during an upgrade this happens.

In all the time Ive been in SL™, Ive not once lost anything out of my Inventory due to some asset server issue. Now Ive done stupid things like unknowingly move thing to another folder or Delete instead of Wear but then all I do is just look in the Recent Items or do a Search. And like Ann said : From: Ann Launay And sometimes it just shows up again at some later date.

Does SL do any kind of asset backup? I've got a lot in my inventory and would hate to experience the same thing... Usually when someone's inventory disappears, it will come back on its own eventually. Clearing cache (sometimes several times) occasionally helps to speed the process along. There is also an external application that purports to allow local backups of some of your SL items: http://www.secondinventory.com/ I've not used it and can't vouch for it in any way.

YMMV My experience is almost exactly the opposite -- I have lost maybe 5 or 10% of my inventory that is actually in my inventory, a few months back. But I have also kept things in storage prims (albeit never 2k in a single prim, maybe 100 tops in a single prim) and have not yet lost a single object that was in a storage prim that I kept rezzed in world. -Atashi

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.
