My Inventory keeps on disappearing

OK.... I've been away from SL for a looooooooong time and decided to return today. First up I discovered that all of my old inventory items were gone. I can live with that and get new stuff. A friend attempted to send me a few bits'n'pieces. Some of it transferred to me, most didn't. All I can see in my inventory are empty folders that I made. The contents are either missing or else unrezzable.

When I log in I keep on appearing at the welcome area rather than where I logged off. I made landmarks and they disappear when I relog. Looks like not much has changed since I left.

Does anything work in SL?

Every my friend attempts to send me something I get a message that says "System unable to transfer inventory" as well as a blue box asking if I want to accept yada-yada-yada. Which I accept and then nothing happens.

I'm not at my viewer now, but I believe in Preferences there is a path to where your local data is stored (somebody help me with this...more details?). Is that path/directory structure valid and accessible on your machine? Just a thought.

Do you mean the cache folder?

I'm not impressed. I can't change my clothes. The animation overrider I was given disappeared when I relogged. Grrrrr.

File a support ticket?

That's broken, too.

Try deleting your installation of SL and installing a new copy. Also delete the cache folder when you do this.

If that fails, try making a new account and seeing if it has the same problems, or try playing from a different machine.

Make sure your on the main tab when you open inventory not on the recent items tab.

Nice one. And also make sure you have all your search filter boxes checked.

EDIT: And make sure you don't have "Since Logoff" or some other time constraint in your All Items.

Hmmmm. I uninstalled SL on one machine, deleted the cache and all SL-related folders. Then rebooted my router and reinstalled SL and............. the same old problems. Maybe I need to buy a new computer / house / car / planet before it will work properly. Now all I have an inventory full of empty folders.

Try the new account first - just in case something about your current one is bugged or hacked or whatever.

A friend logged in from my computer and their account ran just fine. My account seems to be broken. Back at Morris landing site.... again The only thing my account is able to remember is my home location and the money my friend transferred to me. I'd abandon this account but I like my name.

if a friend logged into their account from your machine, log into your account from theirs.

Check all of your remaining objects, scripts, animations, notecards, landmarks, profile picks, and so on (go through every folder in the inventory and wipe it ALL out) - and delete anything you think you can handle losing. I'm not sure if it is possible, but it might be possible to make a script that auto-loots a person's stuff and sends it away. If such is possible, maybe that's what happened to you.

If you can manage to delete -EVERYTHING- you have, and then empty the trash, walk on over to Free Dove, grab the first freebie you find, wear it, and try logging in and out a few times...

I was going to say, a name is a name and use it again... but yeah, if I had your name I'd be trying to hold onto it too.

I relogged after deleting the folders and..... they had returned. This time when I went to delete them a bunch of identical undeleteable folders were left in their place. Curiouser and curiouser.

Definately customer support time. Try one of the offline contact methods (is there a forum here for that, or perhaps one the main secondlife page?)...

I would think deleting everything would free you from a hack.

I suppose you could try searching for a spot with one of those stop animations / stop scripts clickies - but at this point I don't think it would actually help.

I think your account just exists on the database server at some point where there's a chip with a bad transistor, and it's flipping back to '1' everytime the CPU tells it '0'...


Like you, I've just returned after stepping away in 2006. When I got back I was getting spammed with a permissions error, and when I clicked home, I was told I was not allowed to go to that location. My avatar looked like the thing that ate NY with a giant purple basic-hair dial set on max for twin-tails and a body shaped that looked like I'd been stepped on by a giant shoe.
- But I managed to fix it all without any of the hassles you're having.

I've been helping Avian get her account up'n'running again and it's certainly mystified me. Direct avatar-to-avatar inventory transfer fails every time. So I packed a load of stuff into boxes and sold them to her for 0 L$. It appeared to be transferring OK. Even managed to get her into the old dragon avatar she used back in 2006 and save the appearance as an outfit. As the final test I got her to relog. When she appeared back at Morris she was in a Wingless Emoto Tan Fox avatar that she had managed to wear before her account went haywire. Everything we had saved before the relog was gone.
