It would be awesome to be able to change the transparency of a prim via scripting, currently it is not possible

This isn't the scripting forum.

This isn't the scripting forum.

This isn't the scripting forum.

JIRA is where you enter feature requests.

(and you most certainly can change the transparency via scripting)

don't forget..

or
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetLinkPrimitiveParams#PRIM_COLOR

not to mention..

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/TEXTURE_TRANSPARENT

NOTE: Remember you gotta turn off glow when you hide a prim, otherwise the glow will stay behind.

SECOND NOTE: if you're using the Release Candidate, I beleive that currently there is a problem with alpha changing not being shown by the viewer. But remember that the RC is, at best "beta software" and not well supported.

Please vote for this issue if you want it to be fixed. In the meantime, please use the official client.

Yes... and just so nobody is discouraged from posting, it may help to know how this post came to get this response.

Less than a week ago this poster asserted "SL scripting compiler down"--just because it generated syntax errors when confronted with an assortment of text unrecognizable as a script. ()

Now this thread asserts that a basic scripting functionality doesn't exist.

It's not that posters have to do all the work, nor always post to the forum best equipped to handle the subject. But in this case, really, a second thought--just the tiniest hesitation--was warranted before again assuming the fault was in LSL.

Emphatically, this is *not* to discourage anybody from posting questions here and in the Scripting Tips forum, both places where regulars are *eager* to help. On the contrary, I'd hope prospective posters would understand that this specific case comes with a little more history, and that they should expect a more welcoming response.

This thread makes sense.

Ask the experts in a conspicuous place for a little assistance, and they will tell you to go dig it up for yourself with little further explanation.

But tell them that it can't be done, and the platform is crap and so forth, and your answer will be *immediately* forthcoming without research.

This is a well known law of how all forums work!

1) This particular poster has a history of posting things in the wrong forum, or cross-posting to multiple forums

2) When you have a dedicated forum for specific kinds of questions, it is best to use it, since it lessens traffic on a more general forum and keeps common questions on a topic together for easy searching. It also means you will get to see your answer before it scrolls off the first page into obscurity.

3) It would be nice, for "Resident Answers", if there was, you know, a question actually asked. Instead we have what amounts to a feature request for something we already have (and can easily be determined with minimal effort from multiple sources).

As for the "endless post" and people talking about pie, that is expected in an unmoderated "answers" forum which has turned into a General forum. One isn't any better than the other.

And this has what to do with the price of scripted tea in China? Whether the OP has a history or not, the Undying Thread is totally irrelevant in this case- fortunately, you will even find scripting answers there too- but good luck looking for them :)

actually, given recent (and not so recent) history of OP, I'd say this thread would have occurred almost exactly the same regardless of location posted.

He got answers in posts #3 and #4. Which functions should be used and how would be determined by his specific application.

True, but the Wiki takes...eughhh...work.

A little forum search would have turned up:

CODE

default
{
state_entry()
{
llSetAlpha(0.0, ALL_SIDES);
llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName());
}
}

Ooooh, you're evil! :D

but, seriously: You know that saying, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day..."? Well, in this case, it's "Give a guy a fish, you feed him for a day, and he keeps coming back relentlessly pestering you for more!"
