LL, please stop messing with it ... each upgrade seems to make things worse ... stop trying to grow bigger ... SL is a vast wasteland already ... many hectares of beautiful, creative structures and there's nobody there to appreciate it ... re-read Economics 101 ... elasticity of markets ... you've created such an amazing world ... stop tinkering and let it be ... for a while, at least ... I can live without Vs, inverted or otherwise, and without color-coded dots for friend and foe ...
Thanks!!

Linden don't read these forums. They are resident answers.
If things have to be implemented then they have to be implemented in a way which leaves further development possible.
Same goes for the place where I work. Same goes for my real life partner's place (he is a computer game designer).
What good does a thread like this do anyway? Just spreads grumpiness and discontent. And yes, I had issues affecting my play last night too, I just choose to look for the positives in life.

/me wanders in ...... waves at Cherry ..... looks for question.... Hello Tiziana, I'm guessing you had some problems after the update and rolling restart? If you post more information about the specific problems you had, we might be able to refer you to the relevant jira issues so you can let the Lindens know. The jira is the public issue tracker btw. Oh yes as Cherry noted, the Linden monkeys don't read and post here, but they do read and post in the jira. Meanwhile, I hope you feel better for venting

Thanks!! Sorry many want progress we don't want to be playing the 2003 version of SL in 20 years time.

I've played many a MMORPG (not that this is really in the same class) and you get the same kind of thing in EVERY one of them: do we fix problems and move forward with development or leave it be in a stable format and never move forward with any progress? Try playing Ultima Online for nearly 8 years and you'll start learning how to roll with it.
It's a catch-22 of game development; it can't be helped. You just have to be patient, in most games the majority of people have no problems with patches, but some are blessed with lemons. It's the price of progress. Be happy they are working on SL trying to improve it, there's many games out there that the developers stop working on altogether.

NOOOOOOOOO! LL needs to keep developing SL to keep ahead of the competition. If people had stopped messing with computers in the 1960's we'd all be sending punchcards saying 'X slaps Y's ass' or 'woot!' to each other via the post!

I find that curiously pleasing ... yanno .. sending a punch card and dreaming of the days when we are "finally free of these damned valves".

I hate to say this in case Im tempting fate.....but the freezing and 'SL not responding' freezes I was getting seem to have lessened since the new version and RR. Waits to be struck by lightening.

Well, spent my first few hours with the new client last night and it worked like a charm. At first I thought it was a lot lower framerate but it turned out I had tweaked with my graphics card settings to make it look "nicer" and that had slowed it down like crazy.
We're doing "bleeding edge" stuff, here - virtual worlds like this are very cutting edge, and they have to take risks in order to try things. You will see loads of things about how they are trying to improve stability - it's not all "bells and whistles" - I think the fact that Windlight isn't out yet and the Havoc stuff is coming online quicker shows what they are trying to do.
Do you REALLY think that changing the "T"'s on the minimap involved a large amount of resources from LL to make happen? I really like it - I have no problem seeing it and I find it show me better what is going on.
As long as they balance the stability work with new stuff, I won't be complaining. I am running SL on the same laptop I started on back earlier this year and I have seen a huge improvement in reliability and performance. I know others have different experience,s but it's not all doom and gloom....

I have to say I notice better performance as well with most if not all new upgrades (Client and Server) for the 6 Months I have been in Second Life. That being said there may still be bugs that impact some and not others, if left unreported they will never be resolved.

I think the OP might be just venting, but if Tiziana could elaborate on what the problem is, perhaps we can assist? I've only been in SL for a few weeks but it's been long enough to know the help from fellow residents is unparalleled in other gaming communities.
To a serious extent, we DO have the tools at our hands to improve on our experience in SL, if we have the patience and the will to do so.

Yes, like everything else you need to keep going forward. But in sl going forward usually takes us backwards and that's what the op is referring to. Folks here are usually afraid to download anything new put out and for good reason judging by past experiences. When we're given an option to download new material or not, I always stay away as do many others I believe.

I still say try playing Ultima Online for 8 years and see how much gets broken in that game, most of the time it seems to be isolated to a small sector of individuals here instead of across the board like most other game worlds. You get to the point where you just stop caring and expect the worst.
I literally DO stop playing UO for weeks on end around major patches because it was a given that things would be broken, for everyone. They've done a much better job since they've farmed out development to a new studio, but Electronic Arts is really bad about product development IMHO, as is any corporation that loses sight of long term product goals in favor of short term revenue targets.
You can knock LL, but at least they are keeping things reasonably small and don't answer to some behemouth of a corporation, like SONY Online does with Star Wars Galaxies, not only do they answer to SONY, but they also have to deal with LucasArts, the owner of the Star Wars franchise.

Yes, it is a game ... and it does draw you in so that delays and glitches are frustrating ... I'm not sure I've seen appreciable gains with each upgrade ... I'll look more closely!
Thanks, again!

A more considered answer than my earlier 'NOOOOOOOO!': SL needs to keep developing AND it needs to fix problems - to stay ahead of the game it must do both, and this is a fine balancing act that must stretch resources a lot.
