Help needed with streaming my own tunes into my land

Hi,
Id like to stream my own tunes from my hard drive into my land (for a party)
Im certain there are numerous threads about this, but whatever search words Im using doesnt bring them up. All Im getting are the 'voice chat is bad...no its good' threads.
Ive read the knowledge base entry on this but I must be a plank cause I just dont get it.

try using the Second life knowledge base. I found it, but cannot link to it because it goes through a security check using my name.


Go to your support page, and down at the bottom, there will be a link to connect to the support system as "your avatar name" ...click that and once there you'll see a search box on the left hand side.

I plugged in -- music -- and got all of the info that you were looking for.

I suppose I could have cut it and pasted it, but that would have gotten ugly once pasted here....plus theres more info then I could have fit. (I'd probably get yelled at too) :-p

I don't believe you can stream from your hard drive...the music needs to be hosted online so you can give SL a url to use.

Edit: Try the Wiki entry if the KB isn't working for you. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Streaming_Music

How it works :->

You use ShoutCast or IceCast or any other such software to 'broadcast' what you play on your pc (your mp3's)

now your cable modem at home does not have the bandwith to stream all this music to say 10 people at once, so what you do is 'rent' a stream.

What a steam does, is you broadcast to the stream provider and they rebroadcast it on a bigger internet connection computer at a server farm for you.

There are many companies both in world and out world where you can 'rent' streams to broadcast your music.

ShoutCast.com is a good place to get the software, its free i think

Search google for "music stream hosting" for a list of a few thousand companies that offer steam's for rent or search inworld classfied for hourly/daily/monthly rentals.
