An example of bad business in sl...

here is how one resident conducts what I consider bad business in sl...
This is only general info since I cant post the actual chat... and how I feel that even though a land owner has in his lease that he can terminate the lease at any time, he should at least conduct good business and pay me back the $500 rent that I had JUST paid him.. read on...

Now, in all of SL, I have owned land, rented land to others, owned a mall, etc.... and I know the normal etiquette of doing good business. but please be aware of certain renters. the skyboxes in question are very nice, the price is great, but here is an example where I got booted without warning after paying my weekly rental (which was not returned by the way, since he feels he can do that at will... I consider that bad business.

and to start, I will say that I used to own a plot of land on lyralo, and he got upset because I had a platform on the ground of my property. He immed me, saying that this was not a sandbox and I needed to remove it (without even looking to see that I owned the land it was on) anyways, even after I moved the platform and sold the land i decided to rent a skybox about 2 months later and right after paying rent on the second week, I went down to the main office to ask a question about adding a friend to the rental group and before I even said a word I got booted.

So please just be aware of what you are getting into before renting from certain people in sl... I for one have rented from many people and have never recieved such treatment. Just my two cents....

And, by taking this to the forums, you're creating drama. (^_^)y

I would never rent from someone with "don't piss off the landlord" in the covenant.

I took the name and chat out... my main gripe is how non-refunding money and acting the way this person did is in my opinion bad business.... I have never been talked to in the way this rental agent/land owner did... otherwise $500 L would not be that big of a deal... i hope I'm not the only one that feels this way...

Actually... if we were talking $500 of RL money, and not 500 lindens, you should file a small claims court lawsuit.

Leases in RL cannot ever be terminated w/o notice and a period equal to at least the rental term. ie: if you pay weekly rent, a week's notice is the shortest notice possible.

While this is not actual property you leased, analogies can be made - in addition, its basic contract law: you have an agreement, you pay X and get Y, he didn't provide Y; he breached.

Doesn't matter what he puts into the contract - you can't make a liquidated damages clause in a contract that is unjust on its face. And a contract that immunizes him is exactly that - its a damages clause that claims you have no right to any damages.

Sue the guy.

EDIT: Reading further I see its just 500 Lindens. You can still sue and win, but obviously the cost of suing would be greater than what you'd get in return...
