Right outside our home chunk of land in Nadata there was a 16m2 surrounded by red banlines, for sale for $9999L. Right outside my store in Romanenko there was a 16m2 surrounded by red banlines for sale for $14999L. Since I have AR'D them both, I noticed that they were owned by the same 'group' founded by a person who shall remain nameless (obviously an alt tho, born date is in May, right before that land in Nadata grew it's banlines).

Well the banlines disappeared in Romanenko some time ago...and a quick click on the land showed that it now belonged to my partner. It is still a bone of contention between us how he came to own it, and he won't tell me (probably because he knows I will start biotchin lol) how he came to have it or what he might have paid for it. (I don't believe in supporting extortion by buying land to get rid of banlines).

So today I get the urge to walk beyond our walled in garden in Nadata, and I see the red banlines gone there too. I walk over and click on about land and it still belongs to the same group, but the banlines are gone. And in the group info there is a whole blurb about how he gets called an adfarmer and extorter, and people use rude language and slander him and attack him with scripted objects just because they don't sell their 16m2 for 50L blah blah blah waaaa.

I just thought I would share the irony. And send a message. It isn't because you won't sell them at 50L/16m...its because you try to sell them for 10 or 15K Linden...

I know who you are talking about - same thing on one of the sims I have a lot of land on. I AR'ed about the ban lines and the extortionistic price and the ban lines were gone the next day.

Anyone who tries to sell their 16m plots for really high prices has no excuse whatsoever. You shouldn't feel sorry for them at all.

The new Ad Farm policy:

"Using content, particularly advertising, to deliberately and negatively affect another resident’s view so as to sell a parcel for an unreasonable price, will be deemed unacceptable and dealt with as a violation of our community standards. "

In this case, the objectionable content are ban lines. This has drawn complaints from the 4 neighbors on the sides of the land, who keep bumping into them. The 64 meters are spread out into little 4x4 plots, and are hard to avoid in the area. The purpose of the Ban Lines is to induce sale at $9999

Although banlines are not specifically mentioned, they (LL) seem to be coming down hard on this extortionist tactic and I think it wont be too long before banlines are not allowed when a parcel is for sale and especially if the parcel is small and priced at a ridiculous amount.

My additional suggestions: Do not be frivolous! Send your AR and wait. Be patient.

In my specific case, the extortionist not only had ban lines, but he specifically banned me and my alt from his 80sqm parcels inside an add farm. Not only that, he would change the terrain to either raise it or lower it compared to the surroundings that I own on all 4 sides! He tries to annoy me, but I don't give in.

For all means, do not give in and buy a plot that is priced so high! Be patient, has a little faith in LL that they will do what is right. Also, some say that it is bad to buy the 16sqm even if it is priced low - say 79$L for a 16sqm. The reason is that it frees up tier so the extortionist can purchase other 16sqm parcels in other sims and propagate their extortionist methods to new victims. But that is your prerogative.

A little addendum - I have written an add farm blocker script that automatically follows an add farm add tower. Sometimes, when I place a blocker, they just move the add tower higher. This script (still in development but soon to be released for free) automatically detects the movement and adjusts itself to always keep the add tower behind your screen. I love it!

There was an ugly tower in my area (a mega right at the sim border) which is now gone, as are the banlines for the 16sqm beside it. Maybe complaints are on the rise and maybe LL is taking our feedback to heart.

Now about the glass shop with porn photos right on the border of my PG region... that AR is already over a month old!

Get some friends to AR it, if they find it offensive. Sometimes it takes multiple reports before LL moves it's behind on things like this.

Incidentally, I have made both a Knitting Stool and a 16sqm Parcel Private Knitting Screen. The stools sell for anywhere from L$999 up to L$7999 and the screen is only L$2450! These items are exclusively available at that add farm in the center of Poidor sim.

I'm not a fan of ban lines at all, but I've always recognized people's right to do what they please with their land. That said, the guy whose name is in that link and who I won't mention so as to stay in compliance with the TOS is a douchebag. What a tool. Good. He was using banlines for the exact same reason that adfarmers put up spinning eyesores - to harass his neighbors into buying his land for an exorbitant price.

Yay for Maggie! Perhaps she should have just told him she can't deal with AR's and she's not on the G-team, but good for her anyway. Someone really needs to tell this guy to go pound sand. He knows exactly what he's doing and he knows it's completely unethical. He's just looking to be a jackass and to try to intimidate some poor support tech into saying something that will support him so he can cry like a baby about it to LL.

He is the type of guy who would AR his neighbors in an instant if they put up a wall to block his ugly ban lines.

Just this week I got a very fast (and effective!) response to my AR about an extortion attempt.

It helped that the snapshot made it clear that the only one of the 16m parcels owned by the group in question (and all priced over L$60/m) that had a giant neon green FOR SALE block on it, was the one right next to my build. And since my build is an open-air sort-of-temple (a marble slab floor and pillars and fountains), the neon green block stuck out like the proverbial sore thumb---as an attempt to get me to fork over the equivalent of US$5 or so.

(These people count on folks just sighing and paying up--what a lousy business to be in!)

I was very impressed with LL's work on quickly letting the Group know they were in violation--the 16m parcels are still for sale at the high price, but the extortionate neon green monstrosity is gone.

sometimes when I am on SL I take a walk. I get on the LL highway and just walk for an hour or so. Last night I came across one of those glowing ad towers with the particle beacon that shoots into the sky, parked next to an extremely beautiful build with a castle and stone outbuildings, gardens, and a waterfall. The landowner had erected a visual barrier between themselves and the tower but of course it can't go high enough into the sky go hide the particle thingie...

wondered that myself and I took the screenshot already hehe just was too tired last nite and too busy today, but I might well get to it at some point.

I've sent screenshots to Ebay and Weightwatchers when their ads were falsely used, the adds were dead links, I didn't get a reply but I think they dissappeared from the signs though. Make sure you give them links to the advertising companies websites too.

There is one of these in the sim next to mine.

I was busy taking snapshots after sending in an AR, and *whilst I was still there* (i.e. within minutes), one of the Linden G-team arrived and within a few minutes it had disappeared...

She was rather surprised to see the adverts for Penthouse, Playboy, NBC and sharperimage.com as well...

On a related note, based on the advice from Dytska above, I ARd a certain person (the subject of this thread)'s Ban Lines a few days back and they have gone as well

So it seems to be worth the time and effort of filling in an AR...
