Never seen anything liek that in sl - but if there was it would be rough. Kinda like the ghetto comes to sl. Wild. All these computer owning razzers standing around on street corners in the sl projects trying to look memphis and fired out. Wicked.

I know a place that offers apartments at 10 prims for $L1 per week. Bed is already there and not included in prim count. Closest thing to free that I've seen. IM me inworld for a LM.

Where's Des? I think Caledon Oxbridge has free 'dorms' for newbies.

Free houses - if not the land to put them on - are a different matter of course. If that's what you mean Catherine then just visit NCI for a load of them

Do you mean free houses or land with houses?

Sometimes people rent out to newbies for free for a period of time to help them settle in but not seen anyone advertise free for older AVs.

You can find free houses on XStreet and the likes of Yadnis.

There used to be several places offering free housing. Of course, you have to put up with someone else moving into "your" apartment when you aren't there. Or sometimes, when you ARE.

Caledon Oxbridge offers free dorm rooms to new residents. You can stay there a week.

GQ Start offers small apartments at low rent...$L5 per day. You can stay there as long as you like, and the doors lock.

Yep, you can stay at Oxbridge a while.

It's generally for new residents and if they need more than a week, that's okay.

Put it this way: we take care of our new residents as best we can, and don't just dump them wandering where they end up oldbie back yards, leaving them to change in the bushes :)

I'm always amazed at your knowledge of SL, Lindal. :) I knew I'd seen one long ago but couldn't recall the name of it or where it was but it may be gone now.

Well, the way I ran across these wasn't anything special. I'd created an alt and I wanted a place to unpack the freebies I'd gotten and work on my look. I searched on "Free housing" and went to the first place that came up.

There actually was a block of rooms there, sorta like a Motel 6. Anyone could use them. And anyone did. A couple of blingtard guys came into my room and started rezzing cars and motorcycles and crap.

If you just want a place to set as "home" you can join the Forum Cartel and use the Hangout or the changing room as a home base. But you will have to put up with a large number of the people who post here chattering in your ear.

I have never been there when someone else was there. Most times the clubhouse is empty. This is particulrly so in morning of US time.
It would be a good place to live.
For a newbie.
Or someone really cheap.

No, no no... more like dormitories, but short term. You don't have to share.

Speaking as someone who sleeps under her shop counter, I'd say it sounds pretty nice. :)

That actually sounds like the place I saw - especially the Motel 6 model. The rules were that if no one was in the room, anyone could go inside; however, once you left the room, it was once again open to anyone.

Kind of reminds me of when I was a child and my family took long vacations, traveling via car. My father preferred driving at night, so by the time he was ready to stop for the night every motel we passed had their "NO VACANCY" signs lit up. (This was in the dark ages before interstates and larger hotels - just Mom & Pop places along the two-lane highway. I get a bit nostalgic when I see one or two along roads now. Oh, why I thought of this - people on the road seemed to start scrambling for motel accommodations around 6 pm. :D)

Anyway, this one had a wood-cabin looking place to the side of the motel rooms. I figured that was the "check in" office, but considering the rules, probably not. :)
