I know you can mute people and make it so your profile is not in search, but even then people can find your profile. Is there some way anyone knows where you can block your profile so people can't find it at all. I am just curious if there is such a thing or are we limited to being found even when we don't want to be.

If you would like your visibility to be by ACL (ie, who you have it enabled for in your contact list) only, go to Edit > Preferences > Communication and look for the checkbox labelled only my friends and groups can see when I'm online. Hope this helps.

yes you can always be found. There is no way to completely hide.
That is a good thing though, You should not be able to hide from people who have a legitimate reason to look you up.

Hope this helps. That only gets rid of the 'Currently Online' section that appears at the top of the profile when you're logged-in, though. It doesn't actually block access to the profile itself, which is what the OP seems to be asking about.

Dante, I'm seeing odd symbols in your "Custom User Title" under your forum avatar.
⎳0⎳ is showing what looks like a window shutter on either side of the O.
Is that what it's supposed to look like?

Using the regular People search, anyone's profile can be found. Using tons of other methods, anyone can find out at any time whether or not you are online.

You can "hide" your profile by clicking (or unclicking) the box in your profile that says don't show in search.

And even with all the suggestions concerning profiles and friendlists...
Even when you done all that, there are devices that directly check if someone is online or not.... no getting away from that.
As said, there is no way to hide completely.
Morwen.

From: Morwen Bunin That is for the website, not for the in game search. There you can always be found. Yes and no. It can be found, but not read if that option is checked. You get a message saying that "this person has chosen to not show their profile in search" or something like that. So it's a little bit of privacy.

I unchecked the "Show in search" box and she searched my name through the "People"-tab of in game search. She could view my profile completely. So if there are no other factors (as not being active immediately) this is not correct. She even removed me temporary from her friendlist. No difference, she could see my profile. Morwen.

I have gotten that message quite a few times.

From: Maggie McArdle You can "hide" your profile by clicking (or unclicking) the box in your profile that says don't show in search. That only works with the new All search tab because it is google/web based and actually searching on the web. Anyone can still find it using the old People tab of search.

If you go to the People tab of Search, then you can see anyone's profile. The setting only applies to the web-based All search tab. I have an alt that has never had the 'search' box clicked and has never been on my friends list, but I can still get her profile via the People tab, just not via the All tab.

Not only that, but even people who have deleted their accounts in SL for months, their profile can still be brought up under the "All" search, even when they don't show up in "People" search. Best way to not be found.... don't make an SL account in the first place

From: Ralektra Breda also isn't there something about calling cards? Like if you have someone's calling card they can always see you? If not, forgive me, I R Newb Not exactly. You have a calling card for everyone on your Friends list, and THEY can see your on line status (unless you've disabled that permission individually in your Friends list or globally in Preferences). You ALSO have calling cards for everyone who's given you one, and anyone who used to be on your list but has been removed. These are just a way to call up the person's profile without using Search to find it first. Once you have the profile, either via calling card or Search, you can IM the person. If it doesn't say "User is not on line. Your message will be delivered the next time they log on"...then they are on line. To the OP: There's no way to hide on line. If you really, really want privacy, you have only two choices: create and use an alternate account and NEVER add any friends, or install OpenSim software and run a private region on your own computer, unconnected to Second Life or any other virtual world grid.
