Hello,
i am searching for a themed community to live in. Preffered mainland because im not sure im ready for a private island. I need to further look into private sims to see if they are for me.

My question is how do i search for a themed community in sl?

Thanks

You do a profile search for Mr Desmond Shang, you won't find a much better themed community than that but alas it's not mainland.

I've never lived on mainland. I enjoy private sim living. I have lived in community based sims, Sailors Cove and Anderland ( I think he is full though ). I enjoyed those.. But took the plundge and purchased my own sim...

There are of course many theme sims, but searching on SL for anything you actually want to find is hard to do.

I'm certain you will get many suggestions..

It would help if you mentioned a theme you were interested in.

Laughs and recuses himself from further posting in this thread on the basis of it veering too close to an ad.

But before I go, I'll say there are a lot of themed communities on the mainland. They are kind of hard to find searchwise, except for maybe word of mouth. You might try seeing how Luskwood shows up in search, and look for comparable communities.

A couple ways you might find some are via groups - search 'elves' 'furry' 'goth' - that sort of thing, check out people's profiles, look for mainland regions associated with.

One thing important to note: it's not the sheer size of a themed community that makes it cool, it's the vibe of the place. Three or four like-minded neighbours can do wonders and draw a lot of interest and visitors.

Another best bet: start your own!

Good luck, over and out...

You're sensible to be cautious but the majority of Second Life land is private land. If private land was as evil and heinous as the rumour mill would have it, that simply wouldn't be the case.

I'd suggest you rent for a while until you get comfortable with land concepts, renting is a low risk option.

I recommend that you rent from Ciaran since he's a thoroughly good and decent bloke who will do his best to help you out.

(Even though he needs a haircut).

Renting from anyone is subject to the same risks, it is just that the scale of loss may be lower depending on where you are. Mainland ownership is as complete ownership as you get in SL, short of owning your own island. You aren't going to find a themed community that you can just move into on mainland where everyone owns land. You make it by coordinating with your neighbors.

I would look for rental directories inworld. Many themed communities advertise in these and they are good for gathering information.
