LL has changed the name of the protected water sim next door - what does this mean?

I live on a nice waterplot next door to a Protected Linden-owned sim (well, next to a whole heap of them, actually). Up until today, those Linden sims have had names like "Nautilus [some numbers and letters]". Today I look at the map and those protected sims have names like regular sims.

Oh dear.... does this mean that LL is gonna sell them soon? I *really* hope not, since I regularly go sailing on them.

FWIW, the descriptions still show up as "Protected Land" and they are not for sale at present.

Is there any reason LL might have named all the protected water sims near my place, other than as a precursor for putting 'em up for sale? What's going on here? Anyone got any ideas?

Edited to add - looking at the map some more shows that *all* the water sims around the northern and eastern coastline of the sub-continent I live on now have names, but the sims on the southern and eastern coast are still named things like "Nautilus_9v4"... actually, a whole stack of 'em are actually named that, all the same name. How weird.

It's very likely there is going to be land there soon, and the sim auctioned off.

I noticed this same thing earlier this week. I have a place out in Dex, and once I saw the sim named, the thought that they might be getting ready to auction it all off was the first thing to pop into my head.

Maybe time to leave while the gettin is good.

Erm...

RUN!!!!!

No, maybe they're just renaming the protected water to something more memorable than 6347xyz?

The open water next to my sim in Triumphal all have proper names, but they lead to a Linden channel to the old continent ... I worried about this as well .. just to let you know it doesn't ALWAYS mean it is gonna be sold off.

Jack Linden would be a good person to ask. They should do a blog entry and let us know. Not fair to leave neighboring landowners guessing.

I would not worry about it as there is nothing you can do to stop it if it the regions were to be auctioned off at this point. BUT its likely that this is just part of the renaming effort to clearly define what is protected land or not.

Well, I've sent a note off to Blue Linden (who authored today's Blog entry on the Linden Dept of Public Works) enquiring about the re-named ocean sims. Lets see what they have to say. :-7

Don't most of the protected sims on older continents have names? Hopefully they are just running behind with the naming since it is marked protected.

If they are protected waterways, wouldn't they be void sims with the reduced primmage?... has anyone checked to see how many prims the sim allows?

The Lindens are cleaning up the protected waterways, labeling them appropriately, and setting autoreturn to 5 minutes. If it is now labeled as "Protected" then that's what it is.

One of the Lindens already wrote back to one of my panicky neighbors assuring him of this. (I believe it was Jack).

The issue of unnamed water sims in Nautilus and Corsica was raised after Jack Linden's blog in October.
http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/10/18/update-on-mainland-supply-and-auctions/

He commented that LL would be working on cleaning that up.
I noticed that the water sims in the latest section added to Corsica are named and flagged as Protected.

Personally I'd just keep an eye on the auction page.

My new place is on Corsica. Unless you are desperate to have max draw distance then even with builds you shouldn't see too much which offends.
