Question about downloading SL..

The MIS department where I work prohibits us from downloading SL to our computer. I downloaded a version onto my traveldrive. Can I install it there too? Or does it have to connect with other programs (like of course the graphics card)?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

If they don't allow you to download it, they're probably also blocked the network ports that SL needs to run.

It sounds like they really don't want you to run SL. I have no idea how much, if at all, you like having your job but this might be a good time to think about it some.

Yes..I considered losing my job (Government grunt type)...and it's not worth it..I've got a MIS guy interested in SL..if HE can find a way around it I'm good to go! Otherwise..I'm only available after my RL job! LOL

Thanks

A good alternative for you may be ajaxlife.net. It is a textual version of SL that allows you to use your friends list, occasionally your inventory list, and you can TP, although you can't "see" anything when you get there.

My IS department has this place locked down tighter than Ft. Knox, but I can use ajaxlife.net

If you begin to use it, please contribute to the 16 yo girl that wrote it and maintains it ;)

Nothing so exciting as nukes....maybe I'm a Secret Service agent tired of my job?

Or

Mayor of a large metropolitan city who needs to 'escape'?

or

some poor smuck who needs some creativity in her mundane 'gray area' life.

I could go on about you get what you pay for but I'm not going there - I've worked for a government for 4 years now and I've learned what they expect from their employees. (that's why the images of people on SL that are all gray don't scare me)
