What are the benefits of donating land to a group.
I bought and donated 1024sm to a group and pay $8 a month, is there a way off buying more land, either to keep or donate to the same or another group with out having to move up a tier and pay $15.

Main benefit of group owned land is the 10% bonus in tier. That means if you own 4096sqm in group, you can buy an additional 409sqm of land.

I bought and donated 1024sm to a group and pay $8 a month, is there a way off buying more land, either to keep or donate to the same or another group with out having to move up a tier and pay $15. A group has a 10% landholding bonus. You donated 1024 square meters to the group, but the group can purchase 102 more square meters before needing more tier contributions. This is the major benefit to donating land to a group. At the $8 level, you should have 512 meters that you own personally (the free tier from LL), and the 1024 that is donated to a group. If you want the group to have more land, deed/donate your personal 512 for a total of 1536 donation. Then you can purchase an additional 153 square meters (theoretically). _____________________

donating land

Thanks for help.
Im not sure I understand, I think I may be being charged to much land fees. I have 1028sm all donated to a group and I pay $8 a month. If I cick on a piece of 512sm land it says I have to increase my land costs to $15 a month, also if I use the calculator on SL website it also says i will increse my land charges to $15 if I get more land. |

If you really own 1028 sq m then yes, an additional 512 would push you over the tier limit by 4 meters.
ETA: if, however, you go to the group info and donate your 512 to the group, you can then use the Buy for group button without increasing your fee. It would fall within the 10% group land bonus then. |

if the group can support the additional land, and you want to purchase the land for the group...
do the following activate the group in your groups list (so the "tag" is showing) then go to the land you want to buy, and bring up the land info window (click the name of the land or right click on the land and choose about land) on the first tab it has the option of buying for the group there will be a warning saying the group must have enough contributions to support the land (if you are sure it does then click ok) your tier will not increase the only way the tier increases is if you donate more tier to the group, or buy the land for yourself and then donate and make contribution when you donate it (again IF the land has extra credits to support the land you want to purchase you can purchase it directly to the group via the about land tab) _____________________

You can own 512 square m of land or contribute up to 512 m of tier without incurring any monthly fees from LL.
If you hold land/donate tier above and beyond that amount, you incur monthly tier. If you hold/donate up to 512 in addition to your first 512, you pay LL $5/mo. If you hold/donate up to 1024 but more than 512 in addition to your first 512, you pay LL $8/mo. If you hold/donate up to 2048 but more than 1024 in addition to your first 512, you pay LL $15/mo. If you donated 1028 (not 1024) and do not own any other land personally and have not donated to any other group, then you are paying $3 extra per month for 4 square meters more of land than if you had donated 1024 (your first free 512 plus an additional 512), putting you in the $8 tier instead of the $5 tier. _____________________

Thanks guys for all the advice.
no wonder I was finding it a bit hard to understand Lindens were over charging me. Charging me $8 instead of $5. so now I can increase my land with out increasing my land fees. Many thanks again. |
