I am doing some restructuring of things with my business and I was wonder what software some of you use to track your money through the year with Second Life for business.
For example what do you think of Quickin? What do you think is the best software to use for tracking everything and making your tax life easy at the end of the year...

Thanks!

Call me old school, but I have an actual big thick ledger book I use. It doesn't crash.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

I use Microsoft Money Home & Business for my personal finances and Quicken Premier Home & Business for the business finances. I'm not in love with either. The Microsoft product has a lot of flaws and limitations but I've never warmed to the interface of Quicken and actually dread opening it because it doesn't feel intuitive.

If I had to choose something that would export into a tax program, I would probably go with Quicken as we all know that Microsoft tends not to play well with others. I don't use a tax program since I have a two businesses and my returns are complicated enough to require an actual tax professional.

I've been using Quickbooks for a few years now, and like it because it can do my payroll, keeps my taxes straight, and imports easily from PayPal.

You can get a free basic copy here:

I do mine by hand too, a 25 column ledger. I find you are more involved with every little post when you do it this way other than just typing it into a program. You watch it much more closely and remember it better this way. At least I do.

I know - it's just all the sympathy and hype we Europeeps got about VAT 'finishing us off' in SL and all that which made me wonder!! 35%-that's probably almost as much as we pay, adding the different taxes together!

But let's keep quiet or the Lindens might cotton on to the idea of taxes in-world - like a 1L$ teleport tax or something.

Been there, done that. SL used to have a "prim tax" back in the day.

Prim tax? Was that for people who didn't like mature content?

Prior to release of 1.2 (Dec 2003) the SL economy functioned very differently than it does today. It cost $10L to rez a prim and prim usage wasn't tied to amount of land owned in a sim.

Federal Income Tax, State Income tax,City Income Tax, Property Tax, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, State Umemployment Insurance, State Sales Tax, City Sales Tax in some cases, etc. Doesn't matter where you are, the Taxman finds you.

unless you're an illegal immigrant. they get free services, and don't pay taxes on their cash income.
