This is a huge frustation right now, but maybe someone can give me a bit of insight on it all. I purchased some land to have a small bit to have my shop on, I took a big risk by buying land were the rest of the land was still for sale (new sim, mainland) and boy, was that dumb. However I could *not* find a plot anywhere that would work for what I wanted. I managed to get something roadside with no ads (yet) and put up a few shop spaces, trees, etc. Now, I personally can handle normal sized walls in a build up against my land. 10 or 20 meters, yanno, normal. Was that what moved in behind me? Oh no, this thing is easily 60, 70 meters tall and just one large enclosed box. Yes, a big black er gray er whatever, box. Granted, inside a box you can do a number of things, but...and I asked the owner this...why not take it to the sky and maybe put in some trees or garden area at the ground level since its not being used anyway. No, they have an *entrance* to the thing from a residential area next to it. That area must like large dark grey buildings I suppose, more than say a garden with a TP to the *box*. To start with, the conversation started when I was asked to stop a shouting lucky chair on my land which I did because I didnt realize it reset to shouting. I am always happy to work with my neighbors to make sure my plot isnt causing an issue with theirs. However, when I mentioned these ideas to the owner about moving to the sky (hey, it helps with lag to boot) I was told that they just didnt have the prims for a garden so werent going to do it. *sighs* Empty land with 20 trees would be great compared to the *box*. So, HOW do you cover 70 meters of dark grey wall without it looking DUMB! I didnt want to surround my entire plot, and my buildings themselves arent huge. The plot to one side has land half way up the height of the buildings as it is, the other side is lowered so their build is half way up a wall of land...like stairs...so I dont have anything huge they would have to cover or that a linden tree wouldnt 100% block. But, how am I supposed to help the view 70 meters up without it being obvious? I suppose at this point moving would just be dumb, this is going to probably happen again. Is my only option to build my own freakin box and tick off anyone else moving in? Just...oy

A trick...
Mega-prims & Mini-prims
They each have a technique in creating them--I don't use them personally, so I can't tell you how exactly.
Good luck.

Yea but putting prims up with textures on them is really obvious. I can do a build and block out ANYthing next door that is done at normal levels, but 70 meters (I think I have the measurement right, 7 full 10x10 high and 6 wide, across the full back of my land) and a texture would be an eyesore to me just as much as the big great box. Thats why its so frustrating, trees just arent that big lol
edit; unless you meant something else all together that I dont know about.
Lets put it this way, the thing is so big that when standing on my parcel with a draw distance of 96 I cant even see the other end of it. I was told though that the people coming to the club never see the outside so it doesnt matter. *grunts*

I had a neighbor who built a big black box right up to the property line. . .

So. . .I found some photographs of RL graffiti, alpha'd the background wall and stretched it to fit across a few .01m invisible prims on my side of the property line.
Gotta love vandalism

Ash, I had the same thing happen to me. My downfall was that my neighbor put up a BDSM shop and castle/RP area just about 20m up into the sky. I knew I shouldn't have purchased in a new sim with no one else around... Worse part is it was mega prims. Tons and tons of mega prims.. Which sucked because you could walk into a house of mine and in the middle of the upstairs you would smack into this invisible wall, that was apparently the bottom of the megaprims hanging in the air. I tried everything possible. I tried reasoning with the girl and her response was to put mega prims lower.. so I AR'd, it was just.. a mess. I even went and bought Har's goodbye ugly screens and it took over 40 of them just to hide and it looked horrid. So I moved. I know, that sounds horrible, plus it just makes me all red in the face knowing she successfully pushed me out... But practically... I just couldn't live with it anylonger. Good luck. I hope you find your own viable solution that you can be happy with

You could try using an equally sized height mega prim. Hollow out the box. Select the exterior texture and use a transparent texture, neighbors will not know it is there as they pass. Select the interior texture using a background picture that you would like. Set the prim to Phantom. I used this method when trying to create an enclosed island environment that only those who enter the area can see. While I don't know why he would not budge on your suggestion, I think you made a reasonable request. I have have lived in the same SIM from its beginnings as well. All I can say from my experience is that people have come and gone and over time I have purchased more area on the sim. Now it is basically made up of a handful of the original "pilgrims" lol. There is a stronger sense of community now and we are working together to create a pretty sim. But it took 6 months of some wacky stuff lol. If you like the area sit tight, you may find that you have great neighbors in a few months I made plenty of eye sores when I first started and maybe still do at times but now my neighbors will come over and ask wth Im making before putting up a huge wall lol. Good luck

I'm seriously debating just deleting the build I did and selling it and leaving it at that. I do my own line and a bit of resale since I have so much junk I will never use or wear, but thats not even worth doing for me at the moment. Its sad, but I dont log in and just enjoy SL anymore, I go in and clean up the land and log out. Yay? This last *box* issue is just like the straw that broke the camels back, if that makes sense. There is so much I love about SL, but sometimes people you know make it hard to enjoy and then comes big *boxes* lol

put up a 100m wall over the entire length of ur parcel, make it normal white brick and full bright, maybe even make the top 2 light emitting at 20m radius, fight fire with fire with these morons
they start a prims fight after that and shuve prims on ur propperty, create boxes and stick them back where it hurts, the shop and they`ll get silent pritty fast

Well, I just came in to check it out, and at first I could fly and see what the ruckus was about, but now I don't seem to be able to. Not sure if that's because I was flying prior.
Your plot and shops are cute and since I can't fly I can't see the surrounding areas anyway. The big grey box is ugly, but you don't see it once in your area.
You might just wait a bit, some of those big ugly things disappear quickly.

From: Ashlynn Dawn I'm seriously debating just deleting the build I did... Really sorry it's not fun at the moment. I also popped over to investigate. Your's is a quite lovely build, and would look nice pretty much anywhere. Yes, the "big box" does rather *loom*, and is an odd bit of construction anyway. (This one really *needs* a megaprim out front, to combat the evil Z-flicker they've got going there.) But I really think a fancifully textured phantom megaprim backdrop covering it could be quite satisfactory--even possibly add to the theme. Also, you might get interesting neighbors, if you wait it out. If it's not fun, it's not worth doing, but maybe it can be fun... maybe the Great Wall of Nevermore can come to be a source of inspiration, or failing all else, fatalistic humor. From: JessyAnne Theas Worse part is it was mega prims. Tons and tons of mega prims.. Which sucked because you could walk into a house of mine and in the middle of the upstairs you would smack into this invisible wall, that was apparently the bottom of the megaprims hanging in the air. [Qie shakes head sadly.] Such a waste. There could have been easy solutions, given the right megaprims and the right orientations. And the right attitude from the neighbor. Unfortunate.

You might just wait a bit, some of those big ugly things disappear quickly. That is partly my fault, I turned the fly off so that people didnt fly up. Main reason was that when you TP in, you dont see past the store fronts, but if you pull your camera view out or fly up.....pow to the eyes! lol Thanks for the comments on the build, its amazing what a few plants will do for a place. I'm leaning closer and closer to just selling it and walking away from owning land. I look at the way the game is falling apart (see the various other threads here alone to view that happening) and I get more sales from a little shop I rent than on my own land, so its not serving its purpose anyhow. Besides, then I dont have to hand over L$ to LL anymore for tier and can shop more. Oo....shopping more is good.... Anyone want some roadside land cheap? Comes with a big...er...box!!

Actually, if this build is a club (I think I got that from the previous posts), the I say; Wait it out.
I've lived through 5 clubs/casinos near my house. Most are fly-by-night and will quit the club scene in a few weeks. Why? Because they'll be spending money on tier and not making any.
Ugly builds do not attact consumers. Ugly builds are not put up for fun. Ugly builds are put up by inexperianced and uninformed buisness persons hoping to "make it big" without any work.
If they aren't willing to put any work into the build, then they're too lazy to make it long in SL. Not only on the club scene, but in SL in general.
Move your own build up to the cloud level (I've found that skyhouses right above the clouds give quite a lovely look). Keep an eye on the place below and simply wait.
Good Luck ~Jessy
