I just cancelled an alt account I've never used and got this:

Your current plan: Basic Membership
Upgrade to Premium today!

Your billing rate: USD 9.95 Basic
Your current status: Cancellation Pending
Account goes on hold: Wednesday, 03-04-2009

Is the billing rate that's shown a holdover from when they used to charge for alts? or what?
I was never charged for this account (that I'm aware of), and it was never even logged into SL.

Were these two bits:

Upgrade to Premium today!

Your billing rate: USD 9.95 Basic

.....close together?

I'm just wondering if they are offering you the information on what it would cost your discarded alt to stop that Pending Cancellation and go Premium, instead.

Yes, it is a hold-over for a fee that they no longer choose to collect, UNLESS someone abuses alts. They retain the option to collect it though.

Probably.
I paid US$ 9.95 for my first alt.

They may have forgotten to take that text out for newer alts.
Confusing :D

Thanks all, I was hoping it was just a holdover from before, but wasn't exactly sure why the $9.95 thing would be showing up.

if it was a one time fee account, don't those still receive stipend? could just leave it onpen and collect on that, after all you paid for the privilege... =X

you've got about 90mins to change your mind

Dana says she's never logged them .. WOW, there could be some packet of L$ just sitting there :)

The "Upgrade to Premium" I think always accompanies the basic membership status. I just checked my alt acc page but it says "free" not $9.95 but then it is still open.

I made an alt back in February '07. At the time there was a once-off $9 fee - if one were honest enough to declare the connection to a main accoount.
It doesn't get stipends though. Maybe they did in times past.

Add:
The Billing Rate and Total Monthly Cost on the account page are $0

I wish it had been a one-time fee account with a stipend :p but no, it was only made around 2 or 3 months ago so it's just server clutter lol.

Makes me wonder, can we AR a bot runner for abusing alts? Maybe LL will at least charge the bot runner for the privilege.

Nope. The Paid Basic accounts created prior to 6/6/2006 were only eligible to get the L$50 per week stipend for specific weeks that they logged in. To get the money on Tuesday, you had to have logged on at least once in the previous 7 days. I have two accounts that meet this criteria for the weekly stipend. And I log them both in at least once a week.

Premium accounts DO accumulate stipend even if they don't log in. So if you bought a 1-year Premium account, and never used it for 11.5 ,onths, you would have almost a whole year's worth of weekly stipend payments waiting for you when you logged on. Almost as much L$ value as you paid for the year's subscription. (More, in fact, if you were on the old L$500 or L$400 per week schedule).

I just canceled an ALT recently and it asked me if I wanted to proceed. It told me all the reasons why I didn't really need to cancel. It told me that if I did cancel and then changed my mind within the next 30 days it would cost me $9.95 to reinstate the account.

So what you are reading is the status recap AFTER you had agreed to those terms. So the billing terms are $9.95 if you choose to reinstate your account.

Everything was identical up to the part about $9.95.. it didn't say that for me. It said if i change my mind and wish to reinstate my account, that i may do so if it's within 30 days. Nothing at all about a charge.
Would there be different pages displayed depending on if you used a previously used email or not, or maybe account info, or if the account was ever logged in or not?
I know for a fact there was no mention of the $9.95 prior to me seeing it on the final summary I posted, that's why I asked about it.

There better NOT be strange people "living" in my house... I haven't set foot in it for like 2 months or more. I have a skybox elsewhere that I've been camping in lately. Oh, I bet those 2 poseball-hopping French people are back at it again with new names.. :(

Below is the text from the first page that is displayed if you attempt to cancel your account. If you agree to this, there is a button to click.

Do you notice the USD 9.95 fee to reinstate your cancelled account in the last sentence? Evidently you agreed to this term without carefully reading it.

I've canceled more than one ALT account over the past 6 months. This is the same text that was displayed when I canceled those accounts. And the status after I canceled those accounts included the 9.95 charge, which is what I will pay should I decide to reinstate the canceled account.

So is that what the 9.95 is? I setup a new ID for a family member today but when they seen what it all was about they changed there mind. so I thought I would delete the account but now I see on the fee list it says 9.95....I was not sure what was going on. I did not think they would let me cancel something withnot paying for it. Anyway I did setup my paypal with that account. So if they want they can take the money.........Hope I did not do anything wrong.

"REACTIVATION of any cancelled account will cost a one-time fee of USD 9.95"

If you don't reactiviate it, you won't pay anything.

Too funny! I have two alts that qualify and I just verified that they've been getting their stipends all along if they've been active. I had no idea that was still in place! :)
