I have two questions:

1) How do these people get these neat gestures with all of the hearts and stuff on them when they applaude and stuff?

2) How do I get the gestures in my inventory to work? They show active but I don't know how to use them.

Thanks

Just a warning: Complicated gestures annoy large percentages of the population...the more text and/or sound they generate, the more annoying. Setting them off repeatedly will also make people want to break your keyboard.

Many have a keyboard shortcut you can find by editing them. Otherwise, there's a 'Gestures' menu at the bottom right of your viewer screen.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I've made a neat 3-word gesture, without sound, that just says rubga-howls-growls. When people start spamming with noisy gestures I just say my 3 little words once.

A lot of free animated gestures can be found. just open the animation you like, preview it if wanted, then assign a shortcut key in that menu, set the status to "active". and you're done.

As said earlier, the hearts and stuff are particle exploders. These file under "gadgets"
And yes, they flood the server with particles, especially the butterfly ones I've seen lately. they spawn hundreds of butterflies and so causing lag and to top off you can't see anything but butterflies on your screen.

If you want to use the particle gestures, use low prim ones, that don't fill up the screen.
Also be sure the land allows such getures.

Besides free gestures, there are many gesture packages for sale. Take a look in the web marketplace at http://www.xstreesl.com.

I have to agree with the other responders though...most audio and particle gestures are very annoying. Be a good citizen; use short gestures, use them sparingly, and use them appropriately.

Active gestures can be triggered by hotkey, by clicking them in the Local Chat window's Gestures dropdown menu, or in the Gestures menu at the bottom right, or by chatting them silently, by preceding their name with a forward slash, e.g. /hello

Once I remembered that (duh) you can just mute folks who use spammy gestures, I am no longer bothered by them :)

I keep most all of my regular gestures to under 2 seconds and most don't even chat. The most spammy gesture I have is my "LAWL ^-^" gesture that triggers 10 particles that say "LAWL ^-^" with cartoon flowers and such. It's reserved for funnies that deserve more than just a laugh. (^_^)y

It's also, to my mind, the sound of your avatar.

FWIW, I often feel that if you stand in one place too long, you'll have gestures dropped on you. If folks who've been around for a while happen to be near you, then the chances are double. Huge numbers of the silly gestures I have came from two specific moments: playing around with Phaylen and Poid while working on the SL Day of Remembrance, and spending time in the cornfield with Nitron, Ganesha, Immy, Dimitrio an a few others.

There are others I use very regularly that I paid for, particularly the kid sets from Child Haven, which are totally faves of mine (there's some common phrases and words as spoken by a kid). I also ha ve a few simple ones I put together.
