Hey all I'm going to "on-the-road" for a bit and wonder if anbody has tried SL on a ultra compact? I guess the EEE is the "one" assuming it runs (even in low graphics) Anybody tried it yet? Cheers

I have the SL viewer on My Panasonic Toughbook. It really doesn't support the graphics although memory is ok. I can use it to jump in quickly, clear out IMs and send some out of I need to. If I don't stay on too long I can visit one or two places. But after about 15 minutes the heat becomes too much and performance declines quickly. Avatars will flash between three D and their flat skin patterns. It starts to become a psychedelic experience! Some may like that, but it gives me a headache. Movements become very slow and it kills my battery. But having said all that...I do sneak in for a quick fix when I can. FatimaO

I'm using it on Eee. Short advice: Don't, unless you're really comfortable with debug settings and alternative viewers. Don't even try unless you upgrade the RAM.
Otherwise, yes, it can be used for urgent fixup work or chatting by IM.

Mmm... well I'm pretty ok with alternate browsers and stuff - are you running it under windows or linux? I was also thinking of giving linux a go anyway... The toughbook looks a bit bigger than i wanted to carry There's also a new Dell coming soon called the Mini 9 that might be a potential candidate

Windows. Theoretically, Linux would be better, but no idea by how much. It should work much better on an Eee 901 or a similar machine with an Atom CPU instead of a Celeron M, on 701 it only runs if you clock it to the top rated speed of 900 MHz. Nicholaz Old School viewer with the minimum graphics settings makes it more or less bearable, (4 FPS with no rendering features turned off and draw distance cut to 22m) vanilla 1.20 viewer is two times slower. The biggest bottleneck is the Intel GMA 900 onboard graphics card, which is simply too puny to handle SL effectively.
