The hair that I bought has a few layers, and I want to remove one layer. I clicked edit> edit linked part, but I can't find a button that says remove

First thing: you will have to detach the hair and rez it in world to take off pieces. The system doesn't allow us to change linking on worn items :/

Second: once you've got the hair rezzed to edit, you can use Tools->Unlink to detach a selected prim from the link set. Then that piece is a separate object you can delete.

Third: I do hope you have a backup copy of this thing in inventory before you start the surgery! Even if you do everything right, sometimes SL can have diferent ideas and break stuff when you get into serious editing :/

Assuming the hair is modifiable, simply sel ect the linked part you want to remove, and press CTRL-SHIFT-L to unlink it from the rest of the set. Once unlinked, you can delete it.

After you have the prim unlinked, right-click on it, you will find delete in the pie menu.

After you have the prim unlinked, right-click on it, you will find delete in the pie menu.

Or just hit your keyboards 'Delete' key.

Note, though, that neither the pie-button method nor keyboard shortcut give an 'Are you sure' dialog. If you've accidentally got extra prims selected, they'll go too, without any confirmation.

And also... you can't delete a prim (with the delete key) if you have 'edit linked parts' checked, even if it's a single unlinked prim.
