Beta test Grid

Hello All,

I'm working on some products and I'm having a hard time with the textures I'm making. Everytime I upload a texture it costs me $10L and doesn't do what I want it to do. I ahve heard that if I log into the Beta test Grid, I can upload textures or sculpty maps without charge.

My question is this, is this true and if so how do I log on to the beta test grid?

Thanks, Julie

At the login screen, Shift-Ctrl-G will bring up a little menu to the right of the name/password stuff.

Aditi is the beta grid, Agni is the main grid. Your account is well old enough that you should be able to log into Aditi; very new avatars have to wait for a refresh by LL.

And yes it is sort of free to upload there, you get a 5000L-ish play money balance each time they do a refresh.

Do the uploads that you do on the test grid stay with inventory or do you still need to upload to main grid when testing is complete?

Your beta grid inventory starts out as a snapshot of what you had on the main grid, and after that they are totally separate. (Imagine the fun if you could buy stuff on beta with fake money, then hand it to your main account - sometimes actual stores get replicated there :o) So yeah, once you get the thing right, you have to do a real paid upload on the main grid.

Thanks, I haven't been on the test grid before but it definitely could help with animations and such to keep from uploading each adjustment before uploading it to the main grid.

I can't log into the beta-grid, neither with the beta-viewer, nor by taking the aditi-way.
I simply get the error "login failed"
Am I missing something?
Oh, I'm into SL for 2 years now with the same account...

OK.. this is weird.. apparently the "snapshot" of the main grid, includes your password. I changed my passwords several weeks ago, but on the beta grid it's still the old password. Apparently account safety is only important on the main grid. :(

EDIT: Even more strange and illogical... although my password has not been updated, my beta grid avatar is wearing the clothes I put on yesterday on the main grid. Because that is apparently MUCH more important than updating my password.

Account "data" is taken as part of the snapshot.

A persons inventory is taken when they first log in after the snapshot.

This is too keep the size of the beta database down. becuase not everyone in sl is going to use the beta grid there is no reason to copy everyones things .

I'm not sure if it's a one-day glitch but I'd suggest staying away from the 1.26 server sims... anything I created on those has become useless (no wear, no rez, no error message even) on the next relog and it ate any (scripted) attachment I was wearing on one after detaching (*still would love to meet the Linden who thought putting "Detach All" right under "Take Off>" was a good thing*).

Let's hope it's not a preview of things to come :p.

Wouldn't it reduce the size of the the beta grid databases even more to not copy account data for an avatar until they first log in after the snapshot?

I'm able to log in to beta grid with my alt, but have no chance at all with my main avatar.
Any hints?
