i am aware of my os's built-in voice playback, but i've heard SL can distort/muffle the voice due to lag. is there anyway to hear your own SL voice in-game in privacy to test it? i'd imagine you can go to an empty sim and try it out, but i don't even know if it's possible to hear your own avatar's voice or not.

In preferences there is a "voice" tab. Enable voice, run the setup. If you are using morphvox, change the "driver" to screaming bee for the mic portion.
As far as i know, you can't hear yourself in SL unless you have two audio cards, use your speakers on one and the mic and headphones on the other. Of course then you have infinite loopbacks and you probably can't really tell how you sound anyway. The best way to hear yourself is to use the "listen" function on morphvox without being on SL. You will probably hear how you sound and it should be about the same in SL. SL voice sometimes is not good quality so sometimes, even without morphvox, sometimes people sound strange. Metallic sounding, static, talking in a tunnel, etc.
