Logging instant messages in preferences

Could someone explain this to me please and if you log them where is that information stored or where does it go to. Thank you

If you choose to log them, they will go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\<pc-login-id>\Application Data\SecondLife\<sl-login-name>
and in a single file for CHAT called chat.txt and individual files for IMs where the file name is the name of the person or group - i.e. if you IMd me, you would have a file called 'LittleMe Jewell.txt' that would have our conversation.

Nothing ever deletes them or cleans out old data, so your files will grow unless you manage them.
