It's all in the render....
My setup-
Custom built (for this test)3ghz quad 8g RAM twin 500G 7.5kRPM drives
1G PCI ethernet card. with full framing set to match internet connection.
8800 512M video card and a fresh Windows XP install fully patched.
Internet connection 14 down and 6 up Comcast (Houston Texas) Business class
*Speed is average of 3 test using speedtest via LA site*
TEST #1
Installed current SL client (Current DISTRIBUTION version) on new machine and ran in windowed mode
logging in to low traffic residential area with stable fixed content
20 seconds to load content in 96m radius setting
stayed at location for a total of 3 hours building
experienced freezing when spinning view occasionally
freezing never lasted more than a max of 10 seconds.
disconnected once while spinning - sent crash report.
TEST#2
running in windowed mode
logging into a sandbox sim
35 seconds to fully load content in 96m radius setting
stayed at location for a total of 2 hours building
experienced freezing when spinning view about once ever 2 -8 minutes.
Freezing at one point lasted 37 seconds.
disconnected a total of 6 times - sent crash report.
NOTE: every time I crashed it was when changing view and reloading OLD content
I noticed in the monitor windows that when spinning sometimes it was requesting to download and then downloading textures/content that had already been downloaded(culling gone wild?)
I also repeated this test on an older 2.6 duo 2 with 2g ram and a tiny hard drive that hasnt been defragged in a long time and a gt 7600 video card with simular results.
So if we log in and stay in one place then we are pretty safe but if we travel we are going to take a chance of freezing and perhaps even crashing.
TEST#3
Installed Current RC client with same parameters as above.
**CONSTANT CRASHES** every 5-10 minutes
However, camera spin/rotate induced lag frequency has now been reduced but the durration seems to be the same....Good job!
