When I bought my recent land, it was already created by the former owner. Those little prim islands, (sand bars?) floating in the middle of the water. I bought four, 512 lots and have started to put them together into one large lot, for the most part.
However, it suddenly occurred to me today, that maybe there may be a better way to accomplish this and save me prims. Obviously, there are sand textures out there. So, is there a way to maybe start with some kind of platform for instance, and texture it, instead of using all those prims? I mean, like you do for a skybox for instance? I don't want to move the house at this point, (actually, one of my friends has been helping me with this did already get rid of several of the prims under the house which we didn't need) but all the surrounding land around the house, could be erased I guess, and I could start from scratch if it would help me in the long run since I haven't really done anything major yet as far as landscaping is concerned, which couldn't be recreated easily.
Any thoughts?

Yes you can use 10x10x0.5 prims to make a platform, or even a few of the smaller mega prims (20x20x1) to reduce the prim count. I can send them to you if you need them.
Your Linden Library folder includes lots of land and sand textures in it. I recommend keeping a few curved, and or irregular shaped prims around the edges or at corners, like rocks or sand dunes for a more natural look. or possibly a wood dock on one or two sides which will look more natural then sand or grass with a straight edge.

Someone may be able to sculptie something with irregular edges. Not sure how big they can make those. The only thing I could do is just rez a box and put sand textures on it.

Thanks Arch, I do intend on keeping the edges irregular, as they currently are. And, I was going to include a small dock, since I have a boat there now. That was part of the problem, as I'm starting to run low on prims (well not too low, but I still have to finish furnishing the place) and with a dock to buy, furniture, and other stuff, I suddenly realized there just had to be a more economical way to do this. My friend also said so, but he wasn't too accomplished in this regard, having never dealt with this terrain before. It would be great if you would send me those prims and I can figure out which may be better suited to my needs. I kind of knew about the megaprims, and thought that might be a solution. BTW - I should come by sometime and check out your stuff inworld. I work for an architect in RL, I'm the office manager, but I also do a bit of minor design work for them (finishes of kitchens/baths, color coordination, etc.)
