I am looking for information on what is the easiest way to divide up my mainland sim into quarters. The land edit thing does not appear to be able to do this. Any suggestions?

It better be able to, because there's simply no other way to do it.
May help to turn off camera constraints and make sure select distance isn't limited. Then stand in the very center of the sim, cam way up high, and cut a 128x128m rectangle to the corner. You'll need to subdivide three times. If that's too unweildy, one could cut it up into 64x64m 16ths, then join the corner fours of those together. _____________________

It might help to turn off volume rendering. Also in debug settings you can set renderfarclip to a high value so you can see a long way.

Don't you have to have permission to divide up land, if you bought it from someone and are not paying LL... Is it possible you dont have rights to do this? |

Make sure you have parcel lines on. I start out by cutting 1024M parcels, you can then follow the parcel boundaries and join the land for bigger cuts.
So I'd do a 1024, then one below and two to the side, join them all and I have a 4096. It's time consuming but it helps you keep track and the more you do the more intuitive the sizes become. |

Intrestingly, they use the examples, "NATO, radar, or laser." It would appear that the word formed doesn't have to, itself, be in the dictionary - but rather just needs to be pronounceable. So TANSTAAFL would appear qualify, but IBM and FBI wouldn't. That is, TANSTAAFL is an acronym, but IBM is an initialism. I would love to see the OED definition, if somebody would care to quote it here. _____________________

Just make sure to turn your Draw Distance up. No limit select. Make sure "View" property lines is on Cam up into the sky so you're looking down at the sim then cut. It's really easy. and should take less than 5 minutes. to help, if you need a "guide" just move a 10x10x10 cube in the very middle of the sim, before cutting, so you can visually see where you're aiming for. Edit: in the land editing tools you want to be using the "Select Land" option. Then you're basically left-clicking and "holding" while dragging a big square. Like if you were going to select a bunch of icons on your desk top at the same time or something. Once you have a big square drawn.. you're gonna hit the "Divide" button. i'm not in world right now so the "Divide" button might actually say "Subdivide" or something like that instead.. |
