Question about female butt size

Hi All,

I'm trying to create a pretty much 50 everyslider bodyshape, but wondering on what butt size would go with someone that shape to work well with and without skirts?
It sorta looks like 0 is the norm with a skirt?
Any girls near that size like to comment?

A long time ago I gave up trying to find the ideal shape that looked good with skirts and without. I ended up making a second shape identical to first except second has a flat bum to wear with skirts.

I don't want to deraill your thread, but the butts, both male and female are my biggest complaint about the avatar mesh. The underside where it curves back into the leg is too shallow, too gentle a curve. People are not built that way and there is no combination of sliders to repair it that I've found.

Skinners and clothing designers try to compensate for this by shading, but it doens't work in profile. If I could figure out a way to make the clothes work with it, I'd set my rump to 0 and attach a prim rump with the correct curves, but I don't have the time and skill.

Note to clothing designers: maybe there's a market for Invisiprim rumps as part of an outfit, working the same way scupltie boots work to fit every size leg.

I don't know about females, but setting everything to 50 makes for a pretty goofy looking male, in my opinion. 50 is just the middle of the slider range and does not represent average human dimensions to my eyes. I've gotten my best shapes by just setting the height I want and then jumping randomly around the sliders tweaking, because each one affects how the others look. Going by the order of the sliders, top down, yields dubious results for me.

(Ok, maybe they're still dubious. )

Yep, this pings on every clothing designer's pet peeve.. the skirt mesh vs avatar butt.

I tend to shy away from the base skirts because it's the worse mesh in the system, doesn't lay flat against the waist no matter WHAT slider you use and makes the butt look absolutely huge, even with the bustle at 0 and the butt slider at 0.

When I do use it, I try to hide the back end as much as possible. *shudders*

And dancing in a system skirt is just about impossible, as the skirt texture gets stretched into an unrecognizable blur. (This is why I wear mostly pants)
There'd be less need for prim attachments for dresses if the base skirt actually worked.

I find it helps (with that missing butt curve) to set the hip shorter (making waist and legs longer to compensate).

I find this mesh shortcoming most noticeable on males where their butts tend to just sort of blend into their thighs. Maybe they're exhausted after doing all those upper body stretches. :D

My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns, hun
Something I heard from a female friend; a lot of the usual female poses make the hips look narrower than they actually are and it helps to have them slightly wider when stood in the stock pose to allow for this. Just putting that out there.

I avoid system skirts as if they contained the plague. I don't really even like them under prim skirts because of the gap they always seem to have at the waistline, though I do have a few outfits where that is not real horrid.

If you are going to wear system skirts, first design your shape with a butt, ignoring system skirt issues -- get the shape you want first. Then create a second one to use with system skirts that has the butt pretty much non-existent.

As someone else mentioned, keeping all sliders at 50 tends to produce an odd looking avatar in my mind.

@Conan - Having a butt is not a problem and I most definitely would not design my avatar to not have one (another reason I avoid system skirts). However, we also have to be careful with how large we make them in SL for a couple of reasons - textures on larger butts can really look horrid and no matter what, the butt really does need to at least look properly proportioned to the rest of the body.

I use a modified shape for skirts, flatter butt, narrower hips, less saddlebag.
I'm slim anyway, but the modded shape gives me a look in skirts that's consistent with my real shape in jeans or bikini. I keep most of my outfits in folders, complete with the appropriate shape. My modded shape works well with any skirts or dress length up to as short as a few inches above the knee.

With the modded shape. I've found I don't need to go for prim skirts but look good in 'system' ones, which often behave more realistically when dancing or sitting, depending on the texture used.

All skirts seem to make my butt look big.

My normal butt size is 47, which shows through prim skirts. I have a special "Flat-Butt" shape for wearing with dresses.

Round butt - pants
Flat butt - skirts

A butt for all seasons - priceless!

Skirt shapes aren't generally necessary for prim skirts, just a little time on the pose stand with the editing tools active.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Yeah, but I have to do it for every outfit. I'm lazy.

Besides, it's waaaay easier than losing weight in RL. ;)

This is a great reason to never buy an unmoddable shape. I reckon the only way to go is to have a no bum/less hips version of you for frumpy system skirts. I like my bum otherwise. Sadly, I've had to make a thin calves version of me as well, as most bootmakers think we have no calf muscles.
Really really hate the bubble-bum look with prim skirts though. I'd still prefer the system skirt, or better designed prims.

Actually, it's the prim skirts that give me grief. I end up with two ovals showing through the prims. Editing just makes the waistband too big, so it looks like I'm wearing a lampshade.

It's probably because of the particular proportions I've chosen, but I like them.

Further to my above post, here's a pic to show system skirt fitting nicely and consistent with Jeans and T!

The secret is not to go by the numbers but just use your eye - if it pleasing to you then you have achieved what you want, otherwise keep trying.

I really don't care if skirts make my butt look big. I created my shape with no clothes on and I suppose my butt does look big with a skirt on but I have never recieved any complaints. I kinda stopped caring about 3 years ago. :)
