Hey that's a neat idea. I'm going to start carrying around signs that say "LOL" on them. Actually, that was the first time I've ever actually said/typed "LOL", but um, right.

LOL!! I realized I was spending too much time in SL when I found myself in a furniture store in RL thinking, "Wow, that would look GREAT in my house...". I then realized I was thinking about my SL house. :: insert eyeroll here :: Yep...way too much time.

When I first came into SL, I met a guy and we started roleplaying together. He's a lot older than me. Of course being from the world of chat for ages now, "lol" was a basic in my language. I made a grand assumption that everyone knew what it meant, not realizing the vast age differences that were in SL at that time.

It took a while before we knew each other well enough for him to get up the nerve to ask me what "lol"meant (plus I also had found out by then, just how much older he was than me). When I explained it to him, it suddenly dawned on him that all those times he had been cracking jokes, I actually HAD gotten all the punchlines!

"I'm laughing on the inside ..."
lol, thats funky. imagine having to lug flashcards around just so you could let someone know you are laughing.

I use lol far too much, It has gotten so bad that I almost (not quite) have said it in RL. I even think in terms of lol.
Sometimes saying lol can be insincere though. I have known people who say lol when there is nothing to say. I laugh at most anything and everything though, so i am always lol-ing. I always mean it when i use lol.
It can mean different things though, lots of laughs, laugh out loud.. I have even heard it used as lots of love. It can get confusing if you are not sure what people are using it for.

Everybody wants to be a cat,
because a cat's the only cat
who knows where it's at;
while playin' jazz you always has a Welcome mat,
'cause everybody digs a swingin' cat.
Everybody digs a swingin' cat...

Please stop swinging the cat around. I might become ill.

I've not used "LOL" (or ROTFL, etc.) since my AOL days. Heck, easy enough to use a laughing gesture here

That's where my chat days began as well...only, I still use the LOL and the others. I do however, use it when I am actually laughing out loud, but He hehe is more of a chuckle. There have been times where I am LMAO......tears and all! :D

I'd like to have those cards in my truck. Can you imagine cutting someone off on accident, then when they give you the bird, hold up a giant LOL sign? Let's see. I want LOL, IMHO (for when I'm pontificating), TL: DR (for memos at work), YSSCKY (supermarket - guy in front of me in line in the express lane with 23 items), (almost constant use), FFS (also in constant use).

There's others.

LOL has almost come to express a mood more than anything - it's not like there's always actual laughing out loud. I wish there was one to express actual hysterical laughter. I can remember a few conversations where someone has said something that got me literally laughing so hard I was doubled over crying. LOL doesn't really do that justice.

Trout, just create one, say it once and act like it is really well known and can't beleive they didn't know it lol.
AHL - actual hysterical laughter......ok, maybe that one wont work, but try it and see if it works lol.

It's funny, I can never actually take someone seriously when they say "ROTFL". Dude, I KNOW you're not actually rolling on the floor laughing. You're sitting in front of a dern keyboard! Especially when they say it like 10 times in one conversation, hehe. Find a new one. :p

I will note two things: 1) I do not use ROTFL; 2) I do not sit at my keyboard when I am on SL, I am normally stretched out on my bed or on my floor. ROTBL, I suppose for when I am on my bed. More like ROTBLWN (rot blown . . hehe . . meant Rolling on the bed laughing while naked).

I always thought ROFLPMP covered that one. (with several variations).

The signs for in the car are a great idea, though I'm not enough of a netspeak person to know all of the ones quoted.

I'm a bit embarassed to admit this.

A few days ago I drove by a construction site which was so new that only 2 things had been done: the land had been graded, including the making of a driveway, and 20 or so pallets of concrete blocks had been placed neatly in 2 rows along the driveway.

From the highway I was looking down toward the 2 rows of evenly-spaced pallets along the entrance, each pallet stacked with blocks to make a near-perfect cube. I actually caught myself thinking they were boxes of freebies.
