I have had very serious audio problems with music from any area not just my own land, for the last week. Music is crackly and jumpy as if bad lag and even the typing sound is muted and crackly.
I have tried running SL on two other computers and it is still the same inworld, so this is not a pc problem. Has anyone any suggestions?
Also, If I uninstall SL will I loose everything?

Hi Katie, First of all to your last question..... no you wouldn't lose everything if you uninstall the programme. All the stuff in your inventory is stored at the LL side. The only thing you might lose is custom setting you made in the client. As to you audio problem, it would help if you told us which viewer you are using??? As an aside: I'm presuming you've checked all you're settings and haven't changed anything? And I take it you've tried toggling music on and off to clear problems up with a music stream. Thought that really wouldn't affect typing sounds. As said a bit more information would be helpful to figure this out Good luck

I am going to sound very thick I know, but I dont know which viewer I am using as I dont know what a viewer is The problem started after I upgraded to the last LL release, I dont use winlight or anything fancy. I have now lost the music URL from my land, but this audio issue is happening everywhere in SL, I cant even listen to the music in clubs anymore. Another thing I have noticed is that the 'near me' indicator button is always red or amber now, not green, even when I am alone. Sorry - I am so untechnical it is a nightmare!

Also, what are your settings in the Edit Preferences/Network tab? Maybe you could try playing with the bandwidth; I've found that sometimes REDUCING it actually helps. I've heard tell that your bandwidth should be set to roughly half of your actual download speed.
If you have streaming video enabled, you might try disabling it as that would take up bandwidth as well...
Just some ideas.

Go to the Help menu and then choose "About Second Life;" that will tell you what version you're running.

From: Katie Usher how can it be lag in an area, a whole island sim, where there is just me? Bad internet? Lotsa scripts? Lotsa particles, lighting, just about anything.. too many megaprims, too many high-res textures loading, too many physical objects? Lotsa ways EDIT:: But since it is just audio probably not lag... i really don't know =/

You're using a voice viewer obviously, and what I'm quoting here must have something to do with it. Since I'm not using one of those viewers, I'll leave thoughts on a solution to someone more knowledgeable. Good luck and hope you get your music back

What about the Edit Preferences stuff I asked about? Also, what's your Draw Distance? The lower that you can tolerate, the better. If you have a really large draw distance, any computer that you're on has to download a TON of stuff. That might affect streaming music? Maybe?

I think this can be linked to a thread I started back in March ; /111/f3/173750/1.htmlthread title: streaming audio - crackling we seem to be talking about the same fault. I didnt fill in a bug report back then because i didnt know how.
