Hi. I'm around a month in Second Life now. And since I rented my first estate I get attackend and stalked by people who call themselves Police S.L. Officers. Example screenshots below. Yesterday one of them told me that they are going to build a kind of Law and Order system in Europe. With the hint that it's better to participate on this system. So what are they? I mean, is that the official Linden police? Sorry, if my questions sounds dumb. I'm still a newbie.

They are griefers, pure and simple, Linden Labs doesn't support them. Don't listen to what they say at all.

Griefers. If you were not doing anything... (as in something you could be abuse repoprted for) then I would abuse report. From my experience, they and any derivative of them are merely people who get off walking around oribiting or squishing people for the fun and power of it.

nope, just organized griefers / bigmouths. Ignore them and if they keep on harrassing, it's time for an AR ...

Also be sure to rez something that's not physical (IE you can't push it around) and sit on it to prevent orbiting (using push weapons to launch you 5000 miles away)

As said already, there are no Official Linden Police. Anyone claiming to be such are griefers, who most likely still live in their Mother's basements.

Sadly, the sitting on the non-phys box trick won't work against those kind of attacks. Looks like FP, so you may need a shield. If they're on your land, eject and ban them.

And definitely AR them.

Unless the last name is 'Linden,' they're just other Residents, playing some sort of game.

If you're renting and don't have any land controls or don't know how to use it, talk to the person who you are renting from about these people.

Chas, what exactly is Force Prophecies? At first, I thought it was some sort of offensive/defensive weapon system. When I did an inworld search and TP'd to what I supposed to be their shop, it was some weird sort of crystallomancy thing.

If it is a weapon system, what can it do, and how do you defend against it?

Thanks a alot for the quick replies and helpfull infos and advices. :) I wasn't sure. A couple of things aren't easy to understand here in SL. lol Much to learn and mistakes or misunderstandings are pre-programmed in the beginning I guess. Anyway, now I see clearer. Thank you. :)

Psyra, orbiting that sounds weired. If that happens, can you teleport back home?

I did a quick google search on it. I think its this:

I don't see anything there that can't be completely neutralized by sitting on a plywood cube. *Unless* you're on someone else's land, and its the landowner doing it to you on their own land. Then all bets are off, because any landowner can boot you off a plywood cube with the llUnsit() command.

I'm hearing more and more of these "police" groups out there, running against the rules while supposedly "enforcing" same.

They are NOT official. Official names end with "Linden." Police groups using "Linden" or "Second Life" in their name, or claiming to be sanctioned in any way, may be ARed. One of these showed up on the blotter last night even.

"Mute" is also an option. Appeasing them, however, is not; that only feeds the problem.

I like Freeze, verbally ridicule, eject, and ban to deal with the cop wannabes.

It is basically a weapons system, but with lots of handy add-ons. You can't really use it in combat anyway, as it's been banned by virtually all RP combat zones. Just too good for most other weapons sytems, so a bit unfair. The only real defense is something like FP, with a very good shield system.

It's great for dealing with griefers! And it includes a very good non-phys shield.

It also has a range of scanners, platforms, visitor counters, particle effects, etc. and a cool land speeder.

On the crystal front, you give off crystals when you're wearing FP and you can give those to other people to boost their 'Force' powers, which are the powers you can only use against other FP users.

PS. There is no inworld shop, as it's only available on SLX. What you found was probably some arse selling crystals you can get for free from other FP users.

A plywood box has no effect on the attacks shown above. They don't hurt in no-damage zones, but they're bloody annoying.

Oddly enough, in one respect the Mysti-tool is more powerful than FP, as it has an UNSIT command. It also has a push so powerful it will detach and damage attachments, whether they match or not:))

What happened to letting the hounds loose on them

I've been thinking about getting a doggie. Zooby's has some really cute Labrador Retrievers.

These quote "P0L!cE" groups need to be knocked down a few pegs.
Search for "police" in groups and get over 300 results. Some of them are legitimate, such as ones that represent RL police forces or role play groups that clearly state they do not have an affiliation with LL or RL police forces in any way.
HOWEVER,
Several of them have the word "Linden" in the name.
Several of them have the phrase "not role play" in their charters.
These words themselves are misrepresentation of authority and is worthy of an AR on the spot. LL does not police, so you know what you are reading is a lie.

To the OP, don't feel bad about being partly tricked. You are not alone. It takes alot of experience in SL before you know to watch out for misrepresentation like this. And these guys put on a thick air of authority, and you don't find out what they really are unless you know the right questions to ask.

Hi Doc! I'm sure it's a bit unsettling at first, but now you know :) And yes, when you are orbited, just TP home and you'll be fine.

I've had a couple of these "police" groups on my sim and they were thugs who attempt to extort money for "protection". The first time I encountered them I noticed my sim was getting griefed (customers were being orbited). I simply eject/banned the punks and went about my business, talked to my customers to make sure everyone was ok...no biggy.

Couple of minutes later I get an IM informing me that if I don't pay these "police" to protect my store and my sim, I will continue to be griefed.

Took a couple of days, but they went away and their griefing attempts failed miserably.

Still get this about once or twice a month from "security" groups who harass my customers when I have no staff members on duty, and they tell me if I hire them, I wouldn't have this problem.

Funny....but I view them AS the problem, not a solution to one.

~Ari

If they're not acting like Police, they're probably not Police :P

It's one thing to want to pretend to be a police-officer, and maybe go around helping people with questions, being a community oriented individual, ie - a mentor dressed up as a police-officer.

But when some daft idiot comes over to my shop to tell my customers that owning my products is illegal and shouting abuse at them, then I get ever so slightly peeved.
