Dumb question for estate owners

like the title says and the person asking :p

as of late there are more and more islands for sale (full transfer) by people who give the reason they don`t have time to manage their estate while the estate makes money with a good percentage of occupancy(sp)

there must be 1000 people who would love to take over most of the burden for a free corner of land to use, small fee or just for fun for you to just do regular checkups but leave global management to managers (what the role was created for)

people still pay tier to you directly trough an object or paypal and when you have time again, you have more free time in sl to do stuff with a reliable manager (when kept), so chop your estate or sell it as a whole?

Basically, because

a) it's hard work. If the actual owner wasn't prepared to do it for money, it's unlikely that anyone else will do it for "a corner of land" or "for free", at least not long term; and

b) when drama starts, inevitably tenants will start wanting to speak to "the _real_ estate manager" if they don't get the answer they wanted from an assistant.

a. true, but you never know and if a sim has only a couple of residents that go along with eachother then it only involes some peaking in at times

b. that`s what the owner will have to deal with if it can`t get resolved, but alot of time freed with answering general questions wich eat a crapload of time, specially with new residents

Some sim owners are renting sims for just over the cost of tier. It's hard work managing a sim.

I'm not convnced that many sims are being sold that are returning a healthy profit and the strengthening dollar is going to have an effect.

I use my apez system and give a percentage to a management team for my properties. They all also get salaries but the percentage helps them make work bonuses.

But I still get at least 5 e-mails a day inquiring about some issue. I end up forwarding the info to the Management team or just logging on handling it myself. SL business tools are not sophisticated enough to effectively assist business owners with passing on management responsibilities to other people. Hopefully we will get some ingenious (and affordable) add-ons that will assist the business community.

I know estate owners that hire or barter land with others, but when they do it's because of one thing: trust. You can find lots of people willing to do the job, but very few that you could take a deep breath, say: "run everything!" and then sleep peacefully.

In my case, I don't do such things for the reasons Yumi listed, plus, if there is ever any question, the word "employee" carries some powerful connotations in the real world.

One tiny thing goes wrong, and anyone 'working for you' but angry could really rock your world in a bad, bad way.
