Opera browser 9.5 distorts this forum

Opera 9.5 beta (and I think the regular Opera browser also) intermittently but frequently distorts the icons in this forum.

This problem doesn't seem to occur in any other sites, not even vBulletin sites that use the same icons.

One time it's fine, next time it distorts, next time it distorts different icons. The same icon can be both distorted in one place and displayed properly in another place on the same page.

This doesn't happen with IE or FF or Flock or Seamonkey or Safari.

Anyone use, or try to use, Opera to read this forum and see this problem?

Anyone able to shed any light at all on this problem?

IE sucks. The first time I tried an alternate browser was the last time I used IE unless I had to. That was Netscape version 4 or earlier. I have IE6 on this computer and I don't like it, it doesn't do tabs and it's slow. I have IE7 on the other computer, it is slow, and you can't modify it with a wide selection of addons like you can do with Firefox and Flock and Seamonkey. I guess if I had to choose between IE7 and Safari for Windows then maybe I would choose IE.

Incidentally, Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 is out now. The popular addon Session Manager had not been updated as of this morning, so be warned.

To the OP: get a proper browser, Suezanne ;)

Netscape 4 was a nonsense. It virtually killed Netscape off.

IE sucks.QUOTE]

I never have any probs with IE,currently on v7.

I don't have any antivirus on this PC or even a second party firewall.

Many ports are forwarded in/out through my router direct to this PC.

I wonder how much hype is attributed to the use of other browsers ?

A lot. It's a sort of pseudo one-upmanship thing, together with a dislike of Microsoft - both of which don't make any sense.

Well goodness, I'm not still using Netscape 4, although I did install it in the past few years to see it again. I liked Netscape 4, it was the browser I used when I had dialup access, and the kids and I would wait eagerly to download a wav file of Homer Simpson saying "Doh!". It was also the browser I was using at the time that Real Audio came out, and you could listen to streaming music on the dialup service, low fidelity but pretty darn cool for its time.

I have Netscape Navigator 9 on the other machine too, I downloaded that as soon as I read that Navigator was headed into browser history. Of course it's just an uninspired Firefox variant.

I'll just switch back to Flock, which is somewhat inspired Firefox variant. I have the Flock Sulphur test version, based on Firefox 3, on the other machine. That should be pretty nice when it gets done.

I have Maxthon and Maxthon 2 on the other machine, and umm, another IE variation called TheWorld 2. Maxthon and Maxthon 2 are both a bit quirky in a way that doesn't suit me, and I thought TheWorld might have some special multilingual stuff, but it doesn't.

I used IE for years and like Racal had exactly zero problems with malware or other security issues. Yes, there's been a lot of strident, kneejerk anti-IE sentiment over time that often isn't warranted. But I use Firefox exclusively now, not because of security concerns but because it's so nicely extensible through plugins. Greasemonkey and associated scripts alone would be enough for me to switch, all else equal.

I don't know anything about Opera; I'm sure it's a fine browser too. I'm just saying that plenty of people stop using IE for reasons that have nothing to do with paranoia or anti-MS bigotry.

Thats just way too complicated :)

apart from this forum being locked down due to v bullet. 3x missgivings I still see no need to install 3 or more other browsers.

Y'know - through the years I've posted that over and over again, but some people are so into their dislike of MS that it makes no difference to them.

If it hadn't been for Bill Gates' entrepreneurship (and IBM's cockups), we wouldn't have had such cheap computers so soon - maybe not even now.

I used to use Opera because I'm an opera buff, but was using Firefox most of the time so finally dropped it. Every once in a while I think perhaps I should install it again.

Is there some reason why people think you need to adhere to one browser? I like variety.

If one browser meets your needs, I guess so. If not. Browse away.

Well IE is kind of a big bloated feeble pig of a browser but all is fair I suppose.

Firefox ftw (*pumps fist in the air*)

That wasn't a real question - it was more like "Why are people opinionated about something that is none of their business?"

I must be in a cranky mood.

But it *is* some people's business, though not here. One browser means making webpages that are right in one browser. More than one popular browser means having to make webpages that work in more than one browser, sometimes creating seperate pages for different browsers. It used to be a real pain when IE and NS were going head to head, with frequent new versions. Not only did 2 browse need to be catered for, but also 2 or 3 versions of each of them.

I use Opera almost exclusively. I have never seen anything like the OP's screenshot.

And, I use it not because of paranoia, but because it has a lot of cool features IE or Firefox do not have *shrug*
