Before this latest update - I had downloaded SL onto my flashdrive - so I could run it at work. I would just install it on my flashdrive each time and I could play. (my employer doesn't mind us using the computers for such activities, just forbids installation onto the office computer) Something in the latest update (in the checking for permission to install) must have changed?!?!? I am not that computer literate - but my sweetie is in SL and I am dying to be able to get back in!! Has anyone figured out a way to get passed this? WHY did SL have to change that?!?!? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that msn messenger AND yahoo messenger - BOTH have website that you can actually sign in - w/o ever downloading the programs. Does SL have such a thing? Why not?

There are third-party services which allow you to log into SL and IM / chat, access groups/inventory/search, but it is minus the graphics I think, so you can't really do anything with your avatar in-world. (I haven't tried them, so I can't tell you more)

Web-based:

(you will need to download this, maybe can run it off your flash drive)

Maybe it would be useful if you described in greater detail what you have done. What version of SL are you putting on the flashdrive? What steps are you following, and what is the exact text of any error messages you get?

If you do a search for flashdrive you should find a thread or two on the subject.

Wow - thanks - this is great - but gawd - why no graphics? I wish SL had something just like this but with the graphics - is it that hard? (obviously I know nothing about computers, lol)

Great advice and I found a site that allows me to run SL without installing it - HOWEVER, I am so darn computer illiterate that I don't get how or WHAT I need to do - can someone please look at it and walk me through - Do I go to the internet to run? or do I go to my computer? I don't even know what part I need to copy and paste - if I do :(
