I recently purchased the Psitec/Protec combo and I find it is a useful tool, but I would like to know what are the policies on when you are allowed to use such items. I would be disappointed to get banned from hitting a 'griefer' after myself or some others get caged or attacked in some other way. Thanks in advance

Look up Safe Sandbox or Mr Greggan in Search, it's up in his "Picks". just join the group, put on the tag & build. No grief at all & lag is LOW.

"shooting back, is still shooting"
"Self Defense" is not an argument that LL will consider. When they give you a suspension form SL because your "attacker" abuse reported you for shooting them... you won't get an opportunity to explain your actions, you won't get a warning, you'll get logged off with no chance for rebuttal, or even a chance for appeal.
Use the defensive tools if you must.. Luc Aubret is a friend (as is Jadz0r Conover, maker of Ownage).. and I can say without question, "self defense" isn't an excuse.
The best defense you can have is a simple chair, and the ignore button. Go someplace else.. there are hundreds of sandboxes, don't fight over squatting rights.
iIf it's combat you want, go to an officially designated combat zone.

/me nods.... what Winter said. The first thing I rez in a sandbox is a chair and sit my ass down. I haven't found anything that can defeat that, plus I can edit-move myself around my build instead of walking/flying. Even in the safest sandboxes some n00b can hit you with a car and drag you halfway across the sim before you realise what's happened.

I have the Psitec/Protec combo and haven't even bothered to put them on for months. I have a non-phys chair that I can sit in while I build which allows me to move around if I need to.
Someone wants to try to cage me or otherwise attack, I just sit and laugh at them while filling out my AR.

If you turn around and grief a griefer, the griefer can go ahead and file an AR against you.

They can still drop a big black box around ya but that's about it. (for MOST "weapons)

Generally, AR the griefer first, then decide what else you want or need to do. Your AR will alert the Lindens that there is more to the story than the griefer's version, and add a little bit to his record. Encourage others in your vicinity to do the same.
I don't know Protec's system, but there are things you can use that are quite difficult if not impossible for griefers to identify for AR purposes. They tend to be pricey, though. Not that I would use such a thing on a griefer myself of course, oh no. [Rolls eyes heavenward.]

From: anton Keynes i heard havock 4 has disabled orbitting....is this true Havok4 disables the more common forms of orbitting, yes, including those the vast majority of kiddie-griefers use. There are alternatives, however ; )

Your best attack would be the boredom attack. What you do is IM the griefer and pretend you want to be friends with them. Then describe in boring detail how you are building something. Like this, "Now I am going to raise this prim cube by .012 meters so that it lines up with the other prim. I hate that when the seams don't match perfectly. It looks like I have raised it too much. I will lower the prim cube by .003 meters to see if that helps. Ok. That seems to work correctly. Now I will rez another prim." Eventually the griefer will find an excuse to log off.
