Hi all; I've read conflicting reports regarding alt accounts. Some say they are free, others not. For reasons of my own (none of which involve harm to anyone; merely for my own insight), I want an alt, but wish to do so in a legitimate manner (trans: nothing that would jeapordize access to my land). I could really use some direction here...........please? French-style Bugs Bunny Kiss to best response..........?

these people telling you alts cost are people that havent created an alt in ages; they used to cost $10 each. they are giving you advice based on outdated information.

It still says it on this page too (item 8):

http://www.secondlife.com/whatis/plans.php

But, yeah, I had a Support Linden tell me they weren't currently charging the fee. I don't know whether that means they're planning to reinstate it at some point or not, but they really need to update that page in the meantime.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

At the moment Alts definitley don't cost anything to set up, and they can remain free even if you register payment details for them.

I used all the exact same details, DOB, email address and cc number.

This info is only based on my recent experiences though, I created an alt so that I could create a group.

Hope it helps anyway..:)

Didn't charge me and I used everything the same, except the email addy, since they'd stopped accepting the main's email. Now, everything matches, however.

I think they gave up on the idea of charging for alts a couple of months after they opened the flood gates, because it soon became apparent that monitoring the many, many alts that were created by banned accounts.. well, you get the image.

QFT November 06 it was costing $10 but by Feb 07 they dropped the charge.

Exactly the same way as you created your first account. An alt is just another account. No difference as far as SL is concerned between the new account that you open today, and one that I open. SL treats them all as individuals.

The Lindens have left the $9.95 USD charge for additional accounts, and a limit on how many accounts you can have, in some parts of their policies, so they have the option of selectively enforcing that on griefers who abuse the system by opening too many accounts and using them for illicit purposes. But they don't even try to charge normal Players for new accounts, or to identify who is associated with what accounts, or limit how many you can have, unless you do bad things with your accounts.
