Is there a way to resize the Chat window? In some places the spam is so constant it is hard to see the screen. Anyway to make the box smaller?

If you tear the window off as a seperate window, you can make it smaller. Look for a small square icon, upper right corner fo the chatterbox UI. It's in the second line down when docked, to the left of the X that closes the chat.

If you're using the standard SL viewer, I recommend trying the Nicholaz viewer. That one has the ability to resize the chat window like the pre-voice SL viewer.

This is the reason I am using November's early release rather the Nov 30 release. That huge IM window is a PITA if you are trying to build and chat at the same time.

Since you're saying you only have a problem when there is alot of chat on the screen, I'm thinking you're concerned with the text that comes up and lays over the entire view area when you don't have the chatterbox itself open. I only know these few things in Debug Settings. With the Client and Server menus enabled (Ctrl+Alt+D to enable them), open Client and choose Debug Settings at the bottom. ChatFullWidth - If this is set to FALSE, the text will only extend 3/4 across the screen instead of all the way... Requires a viewer restart to take effect, and hardly seems useful to me... ChatPersistTime - How many seconds before someone's chat disappears... Someone could probably come up with something more helpful than those But personally, I keep the chatterbox open most of the time.

Yes, you can tear the window to make it smaller. But this itself is a pain in the ass having to constantly do this.
This is Lindens fault and the genuises behind this stupid idea of planting a king size chat box which covers almost half your screen. When it first came out Linden made a blog for feedback on this chat system. Most of the feedback centered on complaints, people didn't like the box as it's way to large. Linden didn't do a damn thing, they kept it and now sl residents have to deal with this crap they call a chat box.
Some kid somewhere could of done a better job then they did. But, it's Linden you're talking about so it's understandable they keep screwing up things.

I do not have to constantly tear my chat history box off of the communications window
did it once and unless I choose to redock it, it stays undocked
