Yes, they can buy for group, so long as the group has enough tier donated to cover the purchase.

If the group doesn't have enough tier donated does the group just go to a higher tier fee or will it not work at all?

The group needs to have the tier first. Unless you are talking about a contribute tier with land issue, but you are not. :) If buying for group, need tier in the group first :)

Thanks for the replies. Buying land can melt the brain sometimes.

Also, you need to set up the roles correctly in the group so that a particular person can donate tier (or land). Found that out the hard way. :)

And KNOW YOUR GROUP! There is nothing more painful that to lose a good friend over money issues. This is where you find out who your real friends really are! I happen to be fortunate enough to have an awsome (Semi) Partner; she's a great gal. With her, we give each other the room and freedom the other needs and we split the tier down the middle. We have set our ownership up as a group, and it works out great.

Remember, groups are not billed, individuals are. There is no way to know who's going to cover the excess tier needed with the transfer unless you are deeding and contributing tier at the same time.

Which all means, in the long run, to be sure you have enough to cover tier if a friend that was helping with tier decides to leave the group. I only ever put land in a group with an alt of mine as the group owners, and as the sole provider of the tier payments...and only because I wanted the bonus that having land in a group gives. Make sure you yourself have powers in the group that cant be just taken away or you could end up with your land stolen....land sure is a messy deal in SL isnt it?

Well yes all transactions are by me only and I alone am responsible for the accounting. But i guess i need to tier up first before my other account which is not premium can buy land for my group since i am pushing the limit on my current tier level.

If I understood that correctly, you don't want your 2 avs paying tier, or it will cost you more. It is better that only one pays it and take it to the next level. Meter for meter, the tier is cheaper that way.

There is a certain threshold at which it is slightly cheaper to have two premium alts, when you count in the free tier and the stipend. I haven't calculated what that is, but I'm long past it.

If I remember correctly it came out cheaper with two avs when one av paid L$40 tier, and the other av paid L$15.
Given the amount of land we held, tier was much cheaper this way, intead of just bumping the primary av's level up.

But it takes lots of dinking around with "what if" math scenarios to determine how to structure it to spend the least money. Good Luck!

Well here is the deal I am facing.. i am almost at the limit of having to pay for an entire mainland sim if i buy more land, but will not own an entire sim which is unfair IMO. So i think it may be cheaper in this case for 2 accounts to pay rather than just my main.

Thats a large upgrade in tier fees, I agree its cheaper if you have no plan to fill in the sqm you have available at a higher rate.

Or you can tier up and rent your excess tier to the Ninja group and get weekly payments to help offset the higher expense. Also you can rent tier FROM them before you buy to keep from tiering up. IM Skye Whitcroft or Elanthius Flagstaff for details.

Thanks for that tip. I will check and see how those numbers work out then. :)

I once did the math and the answer turns out to be pretty easy:

1) Use two accounts
2) One account should tier up to the maximum level which ist not exceeding the tier needed
3) The other account should tier up to the minimum needed to support the missing tier. This may also be zero.

It sounds complicated, but in reality it is pretty easy.
