I get offline emails from my security orb about intruders that were booted home and I noticed that I'd get one at least once a day and sometimes twice a day for the same AV. I live on a residential sim and I wondered why the same AV would keep returning, day after day, just to be booted again and again. So I did a name search and looked at the profile with the intentions of asking why. This is what I found in the profile: From: someone Hi. I'm a crawler bot for SLBrowser ( http://slbrowser.com). Sorry if I don't reply to you, but I'm not programmed to do that! I work 24/7 to find your latest and greatest products and places. They are then listed *for free* in the SLBrowser search engine. My program is still not perfect so sometimes I visit places that I shouldn't visit. If that's the case, please ban me. In any case, I'm programmed to ignore all information related to Residential parcels that are not for sale. Has anyone else run across one of these crawler bots?

We do need a clarification on whether or not is is against TOS to orbit bots. Or to play bot skeet with them.
Just ban it and be done with it.

Yes I've recorded this bot visiting my shop several times (via my visitor counter).
As Chris said, if you don't like it just ban it. It is after all only automating the collection of information that any human driven avatar could obtain in the same way.
For those of us trying to sell anything, I'm grateful for any improvement over SL's hopeless in world search engine.
I might add that after I noticed it, I went to try the SL Browser HUD (which you can get free in world). To be honest I was rather unimpressed. It struck me a clunky, buggy and inelegant, like something Bill Gates might program after drinking a case of beer.
Of course your experience may have been better

Just ban it and be done with it. I think it is currently against the TOS to orbit bots. In fact a Bot has every single right that you, a human player resident does. Including the ability to not be mass banned by belonging to the "Bot" catagory.

Whether we have rights or not under the TOS/CS slow customer service times - is debatable. Some bots might have more rights than us, since their owners are likely Concierge level

I'd like to see the bot programemd to file an AR - or the botmaster who woould have the nerve3 to try it. Hell, I'd orbit him and his bots too in that case.
Sheesh, some people seem to have an almost perverted obsession with overcompliance to the rules from some Authority for its own sake. Those who are among them, just go to a Gor sim and become a slave; the rest of us will make up our own minds what to do with nosy bots, thank you very much

That's it... I'm making a notecard giver with my land's TOS. ...including my right to do anything to your avatar I see fit.
It's not my fault bots can't read.

This answer isn't about crawler bots, but since you're asking, I bump into the same ban lines and security orbs every day, because they're on the edge of my properties and I'm just trying to move around.

It's not my fault bots can't read. That would not make any difference; your TOS will not override LL's. But on the other hand, I am very sure that nobody would face disciplinary action for orbitting a bot.

I would like Bots to be flagged so you can ban ALL bots from your land.
However there doesn't seem to be a practical way to do this. Even those willing to label their bots as such don't seem to be willing to voluntarily flag themselves as a bot.
I wouldn't want flagged bots to have less "rights" than the rest of us. Just be flagged so people can ban them en masse.
I shouldn't have to know the name of every crawler bot in Second Life to keep them out. Besides the fact that that will be completely unworkable once there are more than 300 crawler bots in SL.
And yeah you have to ban rather than restrict access, otherwise the bot could just fly above the banline level.

I wonder how much worse this will get before it gets better.

Better to give people tools to address the privacy concerns before the bots become commonplace and upset people. From: Burnman Bedlam I wonder how much worse this will get before it gets better. Define worse, define better....? Clearly some improved search tools are sorely needed in SL. The question is how to provide those without further invading the privacy of those who want to be left alone (as much as one can be left alone in SL).

I make accommodations for owners of parcels that are adjacent to mine so that they can move around without having to deal with the security orb. Also, I don't use the banlines except on rare occasions when I'm on the property and I have to turn the security orb off.

I have met these bots, i also use the search hud. the hud could stand some improvements, but it is better than LL's search tool. i beleive the bots for this service are bannable as a class.

It's a bot, not a person) repeatedly drop into my home. After a week of auto-ejecting him/her/it, I think the message got across, and it stopped visiting. Just give it time, this bot too shall pass.

Worse still, several of my bots actually ARE concierge level so they definitely have more rights than most of you.

It was not really a problem, I was just curious how someone could not get the message.(It's been showing up regularly for about 3 weeks) I didn't pay much attention until recently and the name started to register. I've since banned it.
