Finding a group of congenial people will happen - but you may need to try different places/events/groups to find them. The Shelter always has a nice group, I think - but there are lots of wonderful people in SL with different interests, so do a bit of investigating.

I would search for groups that you might share a common interest with. Many here belong to a group called the "Forum Cartel". During the earlier evening they are usually pretty good about having a lot of group chat going on. But there are many groups that you might be interested in. I can't really help with places as I rarely go to clubs. |

Groups are a great way to meet people, though it helps if they're active. And you'd be surprised how quickly 25 slots fill up.
It tends to be rather full of spam, but I still like to search the Events Calendar, usually under Nightlife or Education. (I don't really get much out of Live Music, but some people really like it.) I met some of my early friends in SL at newbie Q&As, and some of the friends I still hang with now at club events. ETA - and I learned to build things at the classes I found and became a bit of a recluse, but that's a whole 'nother ball of wax... _____________________

If you like Victorian, another very congenial and active group is The Independent States of Caledon.
Definitely do a Search on groups, and look for people with whom you share a common interest. There are activity groups for everything from sailing to slavery. And send me an IM in world. I love to talk to new residents. _____________________

Yup....what everyone else said....
Also, the thing that hasn't been mentioned is......when you're part of a group, you'll get notices about events and parties and stuff.....so you can avoid wandering around aimlessly looking for a lively place. The other thing you can do is go into your search, events tab.....and use the dropdown on the right to choose a catagory....night life, games/contests....whatever.....and keep it set to current, on-going (whatever it says) and just search.......you'll see a huge list of stuff that's going on and the times. SL time is the same as PST in the US so the time displayed on your upper right corner is what you want to be paying attention to. Live music events are always fun to check out too....... I recently found a very fun Blues Club in a region called Northfarthing (you can type that in your large map and click search, and it will locate the area for you and then ya just click the teleport option) I think the club was called Atlanta Blues or something.....but anyway.....just one of many many options~!!! Most of all....have fun exploring~!! ![]() _____________________

"MY" question is, WHAT GROUPS ARE HERE????I have failed after extensive attempts, to find ANY listings of what groups exist?!?!?!!!! Did you click on the search button in SL and click on the groups tab? Then simply type in something that interests you and I am sure several groups will pop up. You could also try clicking on the groups that ppl have listed on their profiles _____________________

i'm 22/f if that helps at all. i'm just looking for fun and i party hard. so i;m down for what ever, i just want to meet new poeple... Shout this in a crowded sim and you should make a lot of new friends, fast...Lol. Well, people are all over SL. Thing is to just talk to people until someone talks back. Do things you are interested in. Go places you like to go. Join groups that reflect your interests. What is it you want to do in SL? "MY" question is, WHAT GROUPS ARE HERE????I have failed after extensive attempts, to find ANY listings of what groups exist?!?!?!!!! Try the search in Second Life itself. Search/Groups. kayla-
think of three things that are interesting to you. type them each into the search, and go explore some of those places that come up. if you get lucky, there will be people around to chat with and get to know, and soon enough you have quite a little list of pals with similar interests as yourself. _____________________

Fewt things that worked for me: dance clubs (search and visit a few; you will find some good ones where the people are freindly and chatty). If you go a few times you will make friends for sure. Search the event listings for things that interest you and pop along, you will meet like minded people. But wherever you go, don't be put off if the first time no one seems to chat.

Yor homeworkd for tonight:
Pick 2 hobbies, 2 interests, and 1 thing you'd "Never do in real life but always had a secret interest in." Search for them in both groups and places. Look at the first, last, and some middle page for each result. On each page, TP to 1-3 places that come up, or join 1-3 of the groups. For the groups, if they are quiet in chat, try re-searching for that same group in places, and if you find the place for it, go there. Since you're doing all this in 1 night, some keys: 1. Keep the mini-map open. 2. As soon as you arrive, go to where all the green dots are. 3. If when you reach the dots, you can't see them, or they don't seem to be interacting at all, leave and never come back - you landed in a bot-farm. 4. If there are no green dots, look aound and see if the content interests you. If it does, come back another night. If not, cross it off your list. 5. Say something in most of the groups you join. Try, "Hello, I'm new here, found the group by searching, what can I do to get involved?" - Long before you hit the end of the lists all of that will generate, you'll probably find your first 'social clique.' Hold off on the shopping until you find your thing. - you do want some basic outfits though, and for that, just go to 'Free Dove' and loot the boxes. Free Dove doesn't allow you to open the boxes though (got me on that one), so after you get 3 items, go home, try em on, and then come back for 3 more. Once you hit the stage where you have at least one hangout spot, you can do searching in a new way: 1. Right click people around you, and choose profile. 2. Search the groups that they list in tab 1 of their profile. 3. Keeping their profile tab open, TP to all of the places in their Picks list, doing a quick scan of the place. - This method gets even more useful once you find people who have a style of behaving in SL that appeals to you. |

i'm 22/f if that helps at all. Keep this info confidential for the most part. It won't take you long to discover, especially if you hit the more sensual clubs / content, that there are people in SL for whom you'd rather they didn't know that. As long as their guessing about you, they're more willing to not try to push beyond the screen. Once they get a little past the screen though, some of them start viewing you as property... |

You could also try clicking on the groups that ppl have listed on their profiles Is that supposed to work? I try double clicking, right clicking, left clicking on group names listed on profiles, and nothing ever comes up. I have to open search and type that group name in there... |

Here's the guide I used to get started:
http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2006/11/natalias-newbie-getting-started-guide.html - Its more useful to a shopper than a socialite, and I'm a socialite. But it handled my shopper end well enough that I get people stopping me to compliment me. And it has a link to NCI... If your system is top notch you want to visit NCI. Its the Resident run Newbie help zone. - But NCI is extremely laggy. Even when empty, they use way too many complex scripts and prims in their hubs, and even going to an empty NCI zone can sometimes crash me. That said, on the few times I've made it through and been able to move, I can see amazing content I'd love to explore someday when I can afford a $3000+ PC. ![]() |
