My husband and I are trying to find a fun place to hang out during our time in SL when we aren't building/scripting etc. The problem is that we like the feel of the role play sims for the most part - the atmosphere and cohesion, but the role play sims don't like us.
We are NOT griefers in any sense of the word. We'd like a place where we'd fit in. Our primary AVs are andriod/cyber types and we love to travel by car. That's been the hardest part. No one allows vehicles. They have all these beautiful roads, but we're not allowed to use them. The requirement of DCS (which both of us have had trouble getting to work properly) sucks too, but we could deal with that and get the issues straightened out. Neither of us are strict RPers but we would definitely like a large place with a nice community, even if small, where we would be welcome.
Any suggestions? I'm thinking cyberpunk/sci-fi/post apocalyptic type places. We've checked out a few but none fit right.

I believe there is a residential space open at Sim City. Type in SKIN under maps. You can also try the region HAIR.

Well in the mean time, stop by the forum cartel and get to know the gang there... Just do a search for: Forum Cartel and wallah! I know it isn’t exactly a RP, nor big enough for tank girl to drive her tank thorough, but you would be surprised at the diverse and informative crowd that congregates there. I am sure someone may know a few good spots and drop you the landmarks! And welcome to the forums!

If I still had my city I would say come there, but alas it is gone always welcome to hang out at the arcade though, a few ppl do go and play. and the cartel as mentioned by graphics, although only a couple times have I seen people there, and they were pretty quiet. *shrug* good luck on your hunt

it sounds like you guys should try the wastelands, it's a light RP mostly residential post apocoliptic area, over 4 sims i think. very very well made, the residents have alot of talent. many hidden area's to explore, i'v only been once but it's well worth a look.

There is a central park and usually a handful of folks occupying the region at one time. Since the OP was looking for suggestions, I thought I'd help.

A nice little niche community is actually a small game within SL - it is called Tiny Empires. It is a game based on medieval times has quite a bit of chat in some of the groups (depends on the kingdom you join). The place is slow at times, but you can do it, and build/etc at same time. Some kingdoms have gatherings etc. All avi types are welcome. IM me in game if you want to know more and/or want an invite to a great "Queendom"

Since the OP was looking for suggestions, I thought I'd help. ah now that makes sense Never really explored that sim other than TPing to someone's hair shop hehe (so without the explanation it looks more like a suggestion for a place to set up a hair shop) hehe

Did you check out Suffugium? Right down the street from the main TP-in point there's a police station (I think that's what it is, lol) with the sim rules etc. It seemed to me like pretty light dystopian cyberpunk RP, a great build, and some fun creative types hang out there. .

A person with a tank can drive around near the bull, and into the water, and around. I accidently sank one tank in the little harbor one day.

I'd reccomend the wastelands as well. Not 100% sure if they allow cars BUT It's quite possible. I ride my horse all over there only dismounting when I find something weird and strange to explore.

I'd not choose 'where you belong' by your chosen form. More by how you are treated, and what interests you.
Not all themed sims have strict codes. I'd recommend The Wastelands as top flight with regard to community - a very good crew over there, creative, fun, all that. Tell Neo I sent ya. Failing that - if I saw you cruising down Penny Lane in Caledon as bots in a car - why, we would treat you as we would treat any visitor from the future. That is, politely and kindly! And we might keep the horses back, a bit... The theme restrictions only kick in if you get land in Caledon (please don't build a gigantic deep space radio tracking center in Kittiwickshire, for instance!) But if you have a futuristic bent, it is obviously easier to check out places that would be less of a transition for you.

By all means, check out lots of communities and groups.
But as Graphicguru said, also come on by the Forum Cartel Hangout in Allana. And join the Forum Cartel group. And stick around these forums on the web.
The regulars here are awfully diverse, but on the whole they're a great bunch to hang with.
