Over 81 million lindens were traded on the lindex yesterday!

Seems SL is on the move again :)

Obligatory question: Is this an indicator that SL has recovered from the Eurpeans being taxed...

Well selling up would also result in high Lindex activity, so you can't really come to any solid conclusions either way.

Just to add: I don't think the VAT charges will have a huge quantitative effect on the economy, the effect is more a demographical one, specifically in areas like land rental.

I can always tell when sl is "broken" cause sales stop dead in their tracks even the money tree just sits. Yesterday people were using the money tree and buying stuff so to me its an indicator that I can login and go build something :P

I dont think vat type tax will be a huge influence for the simple reason that we are all used to paying taxes suddenly sl has to introduce VAT and over time other taxes by country and I would anticipate the USA would probably be next for sales taxes on sims etc. It was nice that there was a grace period but in the end tax is just something we pay so we are used to it.

Yesterday was the last day of the month - payday for me. And lots of people get paid on Friday either weekly or biweekly. Could just be that us working stiffs finally had some money to spend.

If someone were to give a million linden to their alt, who then gave it to another alt, who then passed it back to the primary account, why, that's 3 million in "trading" right there.

I wouldn't use the amount of linden traded as an indicator of the actual state of the economy.

Possibly the "Total Unique Users with PMLF" might be a better indicator.

Yes, see if this is a trend or an anomaly. Get back to us in two weeks. :)

As an aside, the base price of mainland is getting close to L$8 a meter. Perhaps the granite sims that have been ready to drop to auction will finally hit the auction page this week...

The 81 million lindens I quoted was amount moved through the lindex, not amount of money that changes hands inworld. This is a fairer look at the state of the economy because it only registers money coming into and out of the sl universe.

I agree with you that the record of money changing hands inworld is not a good indicator. :)

That's one of the most accurate measurements.

Better: create a freebie that you can give to your customers and watch its "performance" over time. A certain percentage of your visitors will always want to pick it up, if at least because they want to see if it is any good. On days when nobody picks it up, you just know that something went wrong, even if unreported.
