I just loaded SL onto my new laptop and the letters inside the IM window are all jagged and not clear at all. I've tried messing with the graphics settings of SL but I can't find a fix. Can someone please help me? Cheers!  |

Turns out the video hardware is utterly incompatible with SL. Wasn't much to be done about it apart from getting a new video card. I messed with the typeface settings a bit to improve mattters, but I never got it to a satisfactory level on the system in question. What's worse btw, and I sincerely hope that's not the case for you, is that SL runs like a complete mess on that system altogether. I hope someone who's more techy will have better answers for you! |

I have the same problem on my laptop, although it affects the menus more for me. A couple of settings to try:
Graphics tab --> UI Size
(don't up it all the way at once... it might make the preferences window too large to see all the buttons)
Text Chat tab --> Chat Font Size
(I think this affects IM font size as well. Both types of text appear in the same places, but there is no separate setting for IM font size.)

I've tried those things and neither seem to make a difference. It's so weird. The text even looks kind of wobbly.
I contacted Concierge and they told me to update my Graphics driver, which I did, but to no affect.
Also, it seems to affect all the windows - Search box, Build, even those little blue pop down boxes.

right click on something so you get the pie menu ... is it a perfect circle or 'squished' ? if 'squished' then your screen resolution in SL is wrong ....
this was my prob when i had jaggy letters ..... under graphics where you select the screen resolution 16:9 etc .. untick Auto and retick it ... mine goes from 16:9 to 8:5 .. then everything is ok...
