Have you searched for him in-world? You could IM him and maybe figure out places he visits from his Groups and Picks.

Joining a group where he is also enrolled will show you in realtime whether he is online or not.
I wouldn't put my hopes too high, though. 98% of the reasons causing a person to disappear will most likely also cause that he won't be logging on to SL.

Talk to the people in the groups he is in, they should be able to look at the group listings and tell you when he last logged in.

From: Chuck Kiergarten He goes by the name Apocress Morrison in SL and hopefully he'll forgive me for not pretending he's female here. I think this is agaist TOS...... This being the telling of RL information, such as gender, about a person to other individuals. I could be remembering wrong, though.
