Does anyone know why the sky has this strange reoccurring pattern on it, the pattern is only on the clouded bits of the sky, where there are no clouds there is no pattern

If i turn off the atmospheric shaders then the pattern is on every prim (that isn't full bright or alpha) and the pattern looks like a cut out (i can see through the pattern and see what is behind it)

heres a screenshot

Changing the sky detail does not alter anything except making the pattern bigger the lower the detail

is there any fix, i have an ati radeon 5750 card

I don't know why, but it's the second time I have seen that effect this week. So at least I can say it isn't just you. The other time was in a snapshot from a builder who is a client of mine. He had no idea why the sky was doing that for him.

Any feedback from someone who knows why would be appreciated.

I had that happen once on the first login of a new client but it went away again when I relogged, so I would guess it is a caching problem. If clearing your cache does not fix it, just turn off cloud rendering in the advanced menu.

There's been at least one thread about the starry shapes in the sky in the past few weeks.

Here's that thread: /111/50/356404/1.html

Apparently Catalyst 9.12 brought this pretty effect.

In the thread I linked one person said they had the problem with both 9.12 and 9.11 and that things worked ok with version 9.10.

There are holes in the sky.
Where the rain gets in.
But they're ever so small.
That's why the rain is thin.

I can confirm that the star problem wasn't there under 9.11, nor was the underwater mess I encountered (discussed in the other star-pattern thread). I recently updated to 9.12 and this started being a problem.

Yay for 9.12 oddities!

The solution with the smallest amount of disabled settings: Preferences >> Graphics >> turn off Atmospheric Shaders - it fixes the problem and only disables Mesh Details for Sky.
