Bare with me; a little prep explanation is in order.
IRL, I am a writer. I write a series of ebooks for a small publishing house in the states. I'd like to give out a few chapters of of a new book I'm working on for some feedback to interested parties.
My question is this: is there a way up sell .pdf, .doc, or .docx files in SL?

Not directly. You'd have to link to a source outside of SL for those. Inworld, you can get .wav files, .tga or .jpg images ... and I think that might be it.

edit: there are other options for distributing text inworld, such as notecards, prims scripted to 'recite' text, or images that have text on them (and must therefore be rezzed to be read).

Books I've seen in SL are usually done with the THinC books, but the text still has to be done in some kind of a photoshop or similar program then imported, as far as I know.

I LOVE books and would love to see more in SL. I just received a notecard from a new bookseller in world. I dropped the card on you so maybe that would be a place to start. :)

Shouldn't you be more careful with your spelling in that case? As in 'bear with me'?

Ephraim Kappler chuckles: unless of course you're inviting us all to get naked with you?

I find the idea of books and magazines in SL to be interesting too. However... I hate staring at a fuzzy page for 5 minutes waiting for it to rez on my HUD.

It makes me ponder why we cling to mediums that are ill-suited to the platform when so much more is possible. We are drawn to things that are familiar I suppose?

You're right, I should have caught that.

I agree about the 'fuzzy' thing.....I an't wait to get off work and look at that norecard! I'll let you guy know how it turned out if I get anything going.

It didn't have a landmark and they wouldn't show up in a search. Any other ideas? :)
