On my top Bar: File, Edit, View, World, Help, Advanced, I find that I am missing the "Tool" menu. How do I get it back? I tried reloading my program, but it did not doi any good.
Thank you for your help in advance.

So far I have read to explanations here in the forum.
1. It is now in the advanced menu 2. It only shows up when build is activated. I have not checked either option. |

If you are using the RC 1.20 viewer it does not show up until you are in build or edit mode.
Good luck ![]() _____________________

Good luck ![]() QFT - see the blog post: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/04/09/updated-new-release-candidate-viewer-120-rc0-available/ Tools menu: The Tools menu has not gone missing! It now displays in the main menu when editing/creating objects. Click on the Build button or right click and select Create. Existing short cuts (CTL + 1, 2, 3) all still work and will also activate the Tools menu. |

I think I vote for a stable menu.

How is that unstable? It's always the shifty ones lurking in the shadows you have to watch for, you never know when they'll leap out and … do something. _____________________

Changing visible="false" to visible="true" and name="Tools" to name="Tool" (name shouldn't really matter as long as the viewer can't find the menu to selectively hide/show it) works for me as a work-around. Some menu items show enabled when it doesn't make sense (like "Take Copy" when you don't have anything selected) but at least I have it back all the time.
If they're going to dumb down the viewer, at least give an option to "undumb" it... |

In one condition, the menu options read from right to left as File Edit View World Help. In the other condition, the menu options read as File Edit View World Tools Help.
Add in the Advance or no Advanced option, and the Admin or no Admin options, and you have File Edit View World Help File Edit View World Help Advanced File Edit View World Help Advanced Admin File Edit View World Tools Help File Edit View World Tools Help Advanced File Edit View World Tools Help Advanced Admin . The menu changes from one of these states to another. I think the word unstable is perfectly reasonable to use to indicate a condition that changes from one state to another. Folks that use "muscle memory" are disadvantaged by such an situation, as are folks that use keystroke and mouseclick macros to operate SL. In addition, when you are teaching people how to use Second Life, if you want to see the menu options you are trying to explain to them, you have to make your menu be in the same mode as theirs in order to see the same options. My browser has File Edit View History Favorites Tools Help in the main menu. It never changes. Many successful programs have similar stable unchanging main menus. Maybe there's a connection. _____________________

It's always the shifty ones lurking in the shadows you have to watch for, you never know when they'll leap out and … do something. My point being...if everything used on the tools menu can ONLY be used when in edit mode, then why even need to have it on the screen if its not being used. Many software programs have interfaces that switch modes off or on depending on the users needs. For instance in Solidworks or Inventor, if I go from sketch mode to solids mode, all of my buttons change to match the commands that I will be needing. Perhaps I misunderstood Susans comment, but thats what I think she was going after. |

My point being...if everything used on the tools menu can ONLY be used when in edit mode, then why even need to have it on the screen if its not being used. It is more that the other elements shift around when top level menus come and go. A similar mistake was recently made with the "Release Keys" button, it appeared in the spot where the IM notification would be expected much of the time. Now it stays in one place and mistakes are less likely. They could grey it out as an alternative. _____________________

It's like the difference between a bug and a feature.
The menus are either unstable or dynamic depending on your point of view. |

Im not a fan of the "hidden" tools menu as of yet. there are times I like to turn things on and off before going into edit/build.
What was gained by this change? What problems were being caused by this menu being shown full time? Is this an intentional feature? Sidebar...does anyone know where to find the information as to why standard prim size is limited? Im not complaining, just wondering what the reason is. Graize |

Sidebar...does anyone know where to find the information as to why standard prim size is limited? Im not complaining, just wondering what the reason is. Graize This transcript explains why the Lindens haven't been too happy with especially the largest prims. The interesting part starts at 13:23. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Zero_Linden/Office_Hours/2007_May_08 Since then, the Linden rumblings have been that if really giant prims do go away, the cap will probably be 256m. _____________________
