Multiple Clients?

Which is the best way to run multiple clients using the least resources?
How do I stop from being logged out?
How do I stop going into away mode when the client is minimized?

All will be greatly appreciated, I am trying to make a video in SL and need a better way to go about it.

Thanks,
Mami

Not sure on the multiple clients. Have not tried it.

To not be logged out hit ctrl/alt/d at the same time. That will add two options at the top of your screen. Client and Server. Click the client tab>Character>Character Tests>Go Away/AFK When Idle.

I am not sure if that will keep you active when you are minimized.

Mami: I assume you are running under windows.

Running multiple clients is a runtime parameter - open the shortcut you use to invoke SL and add "-multiple" (without the quotes) to the end of the Target string.

To run without going into Away mode (or being autologged out after 30 minutes), do as the poster above recommended. There used to be a bug that stopped that from working when minimized -- I do not know if it is still in LL's regular client. I use the Nicholaz client, where it has been fixed for months.

There is a whole "Movies and Machinima" Forum of its own. Take a look, great hints in there for you.

If you minimize the AFK will still logg you out. Also the AFK should not have an X in it to work.

Thanks Sheena. Then, Mami, you may want to look at the Nicholaz client, where you do not get logged out when minimized, so long as you have the AFK test unchecked.

thanks for the replies guys but I am already using the -multiple, I was hoping there was another way that would use less resources?

Go into your SL preferences and turn down all the graphics settings. Just go in there and turn down everything you find.

A friend who regularly uses multiples, claims it works best if you aren't on a voice client.

In preferences, select the GC ram memory for each running client, so that when totalled it does not exceed the total GC ram memory you have, I think from memory the lowest is 32mb. Also as stated above, turn off all the eyecandy and set everything to as low as it can go. Then do the same with bandwith in the Network tab, setting so that each client has the same amount of bandwidth, but not exceeding your total.

If you are trying to run multiple clients AND one for creating machinima on the same PC, forget it. Same if you are running multiple clients on one PC while creating machinima on another system sharing the same connection. The reason being that whilst you may have sufficient Download bandwidth, you may not (as in the case of a ASDL/DSL connection) have the same bandwidth on the Upload bandwidth.

To overcome the AFK, you can use a Anti-Afk Hud, and use a pose and or animation to keep your avatar 'active'. When you shrink the window, the OS responds to pings from the servers as the windowed client being inactive, which it won't all the time you are being animated (same with camping/dancing animations. I don't think LL like you using this method, but the jury is out as to whether they will do anything about it.
