Well...Let's use a keyword for test: prefab
Land Places (that thing that we pay 30 L$/Week at Land Tools)
1st result: Something with null title - how to do it ? 2nd result: I sliced a parcel and copy/pasted the title and description with left spaces just to see if I ran reproduce the same. But my parcel does not appear anyway
And the rest of results: No places related to prefab mixed with prefab stores ?!?! Why ???
Now: Peid Advertising
First result: Somethink like a 0 and several spaces and the name of the store like "0 CASTLE" - Paying 4200 L$ Well...A Ad cannot start with numbers. But he did ! The follwiing row is wrost: Paing 4995, but based on ASCII order the previous row appear first. Now I really start to be confused. What is the fucking deal ? Appear on first who pay more or ASCII is the criteria ?
And the rest of the rows...Well..Ads up to 30.000 L$ mixed with some ads with 3000 L$
I really can't understand anymore..can someone explain me ?

Hi Rafalla,
There are two different ways to advertise your land, which are what I think you're confusing.
The first is to list your land in Search/Places. To do this, check the box under About Land/Options (I think, I'm not online right now) that asks if you want to list in Search/Places for L$30.
You only get a very limited amount of space to type in a description, and a place to put the picture of your land.
The second way to advertise is through Search/Classifieds. To do this, click on yourself, go to your profile, and then choose the 'Classified' tab. Here you can enter a long description of your land, a picture, and a landmark. You decide how much you want to pay. Some people only pay L$50, some pay L$100,000. It's up to you.
Hope this helps!

I've found the classifieds to be a pain in the ass unless you're looking for specific things...like a scripter or builder or something like that.
From the advertiser's perspective you have to spend about 20x more than I make in SL in order to show up anywhere decent on the list.
I recently heard of something called "SL Browser" (I think it's called) that is a HUD attachment. It's essentially Google for SL and is an option-packed alternative to SL's regular search feature.
I gotta go find where I saw that and check it out sometime!
But yeah. Classifieds= (_|_)

But yeah. Classifieds= (_|_) I totally disagree Squeeze. I get at least a hundred teleports to my shop each week from my classified. Out of those hundred, I figure that at the WORST, only 5 people buy stuff. If each one of those people only spends L$200, the ad pays for itself.

I tried the SL Browser thing and it seems like a good idea, but they use bots to collect the info so some of it was pretty out of date (info for my shop was a month old and I had since changes the TP point for example). Thank goodness I didn't have a sale on the day they scanned me, or it would most likely list those prices until I got scanned again. Also, it attempts to use a texture in the object for the picture of the item --great for a 1 prim vendor with clothes in it and an ad texture inside that shows the outfit, not so great for an object set for sell copy.
I agree though, the current system of classifieds & search places is pretty **edit** clumsy.

I'm thinking different business fields have different types of customers that go about things in different ways. For example. I, personally, would use the classifieds to find a scripter to do something I can't figure out (if I didn't already have friends to help me out!) or for some other service where I"d have to interract with someone to get the job done. However, I look through the Places search to find something like a building item (doors, teleport pads, etc) or a vehicle or weapon where I'd want to see it and maybe try it out first. My stuff falls in the latter category and I didn't have much luck with classifieds and I spent about L$1000 on my classified ad.

I sell only international/ethnic clothes; I've put 'sari, middle east, cheongsam, africa, north american," etc in my classified. That's why it works. If I sold regular clothes like just "dresses" I'd have to sell my first born child to get up into the first page of listings.

I always search from the bottom up when looking in the Places tab; less popular means less lag. As for classifieds, I always read the whole list anyway, before picking one. So really, the position on the list is of no real consequence.

Money ? ASCII ? A stupid trick ?? What is the big deal ???

How the order of results works ? What is the Hierarquical order ? Money ? ASCII ? A stupid trick ?? What is the big deal ??? *sigh Ok...lemme break it down for you. It's not that hard. Places: your search ranking is based on traffic. Traffic is based on how many people visit your land and for how long they stay. The more people go there and/or the longer they stay the better your ranking will be. So let's say I'm listed under "robots" (which I am). If you look up "Robots" you will see everyone with that word in their listing in order of how many people go to their place. That number is easily gamed and hasn't been accurate for a long time. Classified: your classified ranking is based on how much you pay for the classified. So if I'm listed in "robots" and pay 1000L for my listing it will be below someone who paid 500,000L for their listing but above a guy that paid 50L for their listing. All of the searching is based on key words you put in your listings. You want to figure out all the possible words someone would possibly use to search for your product or service and put them in the listing. It looks professional when you can include them all in a descriptive paragraph instead of just typing them all out. That's what we have to work with!

I think her question is about the actual results listings when you search in either classifieds or search/places. e.g. all the spaces and zeroes in front of some listings.. or for example, we'll see "~~00 SEX" in the results. I think she wants to know how to get that.

That's what we have to work with! Right ! First thing sucessully understand: Places (land) is ranked based on trafic ! Nice !! Ty !!! Abour robots...Ok..Let me list Robots... First, second and third results: A Null title classifieds : Why ? Following results: !Business in a box !Scrip SL Creator... Well.several results - the order usually: Land Results comes first... So, in second...peid results...Let's see it... Well.;.All sorted by how much in L$ has been peid... Robot appear like the theory of advertising... Try: PREFAB There is non sense order...

I think she wants to know how to get that. If that's what they are trying to do, I think it's a BAD idea. I always pass up ALL the ads that use the stupid extra characters to get high in the search. If they will use deception to fool the search, I feel they will be dishonest in dealings with me. I never shop at places that use those kind of ads. I think there are quite a few people who feel the same way.
