Hello everyone and good morning...does anyone happen to know if there exists a list of all existing sim-names? If so, where would i be able to find it?

"the list" would have 35000 entries and would be deprecated a few hours later.

case rested.

I don't know if all of them are listed, but this page might be a good place to start: http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Sim_Histories

http://www.gridsurvey.com is a front end to a database containing all current Main Gird regions and many no longer on the grid . It is normally updated daily .

LOL - it has 993 pages. Very useful link, though - thanks, Tyche

wow, I am impressed ;-) Do you happen to know as well, if anyone can see for how long a region has been online?

That site will tell you when the region first appeared on the grid (as long as it was after 8th March 2008) if you click on the region name, the figure you want is First Survey: which will be within a day or two of it first appearing. - I should point out that I run gridsurvey.com and the data is base on my daily grid surveys.

If you want to see historical maps of the grid over time http://www.slmaps.com/ is a very good site.

I think this is a related question but I am sure someone will shoot me down if not.. :-)

Is there a database that connects SIM numbers (such as sim959 for example) to an actual sim name?

Probably not. I don't think the sim numbers are static.

Okay, let me rephrase: The sim numbers are permanently assigned to their hardware host. The sim names, however, are not tied to any one host. When a host is rebooted, its hosted regions are restarted on different available hosts, so the sim number (or, more technically, server hostname) changes.

At least, I'm pretty sure how it works.

obijan.com keeps a reasonably complete list of regions with their last known Sim number. It's about 80% complete in terms of coverage. I can't say how up to date the Sim numbers are however - it's worth confirming in world after your query . Individual regions are at http://obijan.com/region/xxxx where xxxx is the region name (use + for spaces)

Max Case used to have a site (Sim Neighbours) which also held this info but it's been down for a few months now
