Baseless rumour or shocking truth?

i heard someone was let go a couple weeks ago..i can't remember who though off hand..

Prospero Linden was fired a couple weeks ago.

Jack's profile is intact. However, LL posted a job with his job title a little over a week ago:

This was mentioned on the Second Thoughts blog, which might be the source of the rumor.

If he HAS left, he doesn't have to have been fired, you know. I can't imagine any more thankless job than implementing some of LL's land policies. And the level of screaming from residents, gah!

Probably the only type of person who could find out directly from LL is a major land baron.

Hi Elanthius! Jack Linden was in world yesterday.

Was he doing something about land?

OK, that's partly what I was shooting for. Sadly I forgot about his office hours yesterday and was hoping someone here had attended.

of course he could have secretly been given 4 weeks notice or something but it seems pretty implausible.

Or, he could be moving on to something else within the lab after they hire a replacement and train them up. Or, they could be hiring a second Director of Community Relations with a different sphere of responsibility. It's not at all uncommon to do that.

Qie posted an extract from Jack's office hours. My impression is that it was from yesterday, but it could have been an old extract.

It was from yesterday's office hour, so it doesn't look like he was fired a couple of weeks ago - not instantly, anyway.

Perhaps the theory is that LL fires its employees in the same timely fashion with which it upgrades the Forums: "You're fired. Please leave real soon now, mkay?"



[ETA: Jack was at the San Francisco office yesterday, and I think all week. I'm wondering if it's possible that Jack and Prospero were somehow confused by somebody? Also, Prospero's abrupt departure is evidence of... oh, screw it, I don't know that it's evidence of anything.]

they need to fire the old SLX staff and replace them with docile cooperative and appreciative company people. Maybe I will apply for a high level job with LL, get hired and do it myself haha

He did indeed have his office hour yesterday, and it was business as usual. He is in the SF office all month.

If you read between the lines of that Office Hours transcript, it become pretty clear that Jack is in fact gone at this stage.

That's not an open mic. That's the HR guy and two heavies from security breathing down his neck.

Well, that pretty much makes it plain.

People are putting two and two together and coming up with five.

This person will be working for Jack, maybe that's why he's in SF right now, sorting this position out.

There was a second Linden at the meeting yesterday as well, I forget the name, but he just stood there silently the whole time observing...

Geo, he made one comment along the lines of not needing to type or something.

I've noticed this at other meetings lately too. Then again, I've also noticed a lot more "group office hour" ideas.

To answer the OPs question, this off of Twitter tonight...
